Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a one of a kind, COMPLETELY ORIGINAL extremely low mile 1969 Sandcast Honda CB750 motorcycle. The clock shows 445 miles, and that is actual mileage! When I purchased this vehicle some 15 years ago or so, I was a bit leary of course about the mileage. So, I checked the following: The rubber velocity stacks (inside the airbox) were as soft and pliable as if they were brand new. (normally, with heat and fuel vapors, they always harden over time). The original tires ( Dunlop F3 Front, and Dunlop K87 Rear), show very little wear from new.The plastic inner rear fender looks exactly as new (see fotos)..these always scratch easily from the rear tire kicking up dirt over time. The front disc shows very little wear (see fotos), andBoth the front brake pads, and the rear brake shoes also show almost no wear. Amongst other things, I also removed a few of the valve tappet caps, to inspect the valve train with a flashlight, only to find that the entire valve train is exactly as brand new. It is actually something to see a "brand new" camshaft. Convinced that this bike showed the actual mileage at the time (428 miles) I purchased it. It eventually wound up being used as visual verification of exact wiring location, wire bands, etc., for my Sandcast restorations, offered on World Motorcycles dot com. What even makes this bike MORE original, is that none of the Factory recalls were done on this bike. For example, it still has the very small single throttle cable, including the associating small brass adjusters, small rubber caps, as well as of course the original #28 carb caps, with the shorter slides and springs. As well, the rear hub rubber dampers were never changed out, nor was the front sprocket, as were both also prescribed by factory recall. As with all early Sandcasts, both the speedo and tach cable drives (under the gauges) are sandcast aluminum. (Later bikes had diecast drives). When I first heard about this vehicle, I had wondered about how was it possible to only have 428 miles. Once I changed the oil (twice, to flush out any impurities), and fueled it, it became pretty obvious. When I first received the bike, there were quite a bit of fuel stains that were running down the left side of the lower engine (on the transmission cover, and the sprocket cover), (I've since repolished those two covers) indicating that the carbs were leaking. I didn't know how much until I put fuel in it for the first time... as the gas immediately ran out of the brass drain tube of carb #1. Looking into this, I found that the brass float chamber overflow tube for the #1 carb had an almost imperceptible hairline crack in it at the bottom (I've seen a few of these before), and worse yet, there was internal damage to the petcock (around the reserve port), so that in essence the petcock could not possibly be shut off. So, what obviously happened was, every time that the original owner put gas in it, ALL the fuel would run right by the petcock, and then through the bottom of the cracked overflow tube, down past the left engine cover, and eventually onto the floor . Probably a very frustrating experience for the original owner, to say the least. Of course, I replaced the offending float bowl and petcock, and the bike has operated fine ever since, with no leaks. The only other item I replaced was a turn signal lens (with NOS) that had a crack. It was told to me that the bike was sitting in a barn when found, and the barn must have had a window, because there is a small amount of fading of the Red paint (VERY common with Candy Ruby Red!) on the top of one side cover, and the headlight shell. This fading is hard to show in the fotos here, and is not enough to worry about fixing. There is also some fading of the master cylinder. The top of the fuel tank also shows 2 or 3 very small chips (about the size of a head of a pin). Also, there are 3 or 4 very small dots in the paint, that appear a bit lighter in color than the original Red, (probably from brake fluid) on the right front corner of the tank. These are so small that they don't even show in the foto. This original (wrinkle) gas tank has very clean metal inside (no rust). The only other flaws are that both of the aluminum front fork legs have some minor corrosion..and the battery box shows minor acid corrosion on the top. Also, the valve cover, and alternator cover show a few very minor corrosion spots through the clear coat, and are very hard to see in the fotos..but never the less, still there. I have put about 17 total miles on the vehicle, and every time I have ridden it, it runs exactly like one would expect a brand new bike to run....Perfect. In fact, if you think about it, technically speaking, the engine isn't even broken in! (Honda has always said 600 miles minimum for break in). All the original items that you would expect from an original Sandcast bike are still there: Short chainguard, small front sprocket, ORIGINAL no Number exhaust pipes! (again...with only 445 miles on them!), TWO double stamped (Pat. numbers, and Honda logo) mirrors, wrinkle gas tank, non-recall gas cap catch (this is the early style that did not have the extra “hook” in the front of it), original ALL RED FOAM seat...in PERFECT condition, not collapsed at all...Original recessed ignition switch, with two (as new) plug keys, and everything else you would expect on a 100% original bike. This vehicle is also an original California “Black Plate” bike, WITH it's original black license plate (see fotos), that has not been registered since 1974. It also bears the original license plate frame from the Honda Dealership (Award Motors, in Costa Mesa, CA), from where it was originally purchased.VIN (Frame # is CB750-1006537, and Engine # is CB750E-1006615 (both shown in the fotos) This bike is in EXCEPTIONAL condition for being over 40 years old..and with that kind of miles, it should be! For those of you looking for the real thing (regarding Sandcast 750s)...it doesn't get any more authentic than this bike, and you will not find one with lower miles on it. Don't miss this once in a lifetime chance to own a Sandcast this rare and nice! PAYPAL DEPOSIT OF $1000.00 IS DUE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF AUCTION'S END, WITH THE BALANCE DUE WITHIN 72 HOURS.
