Vehicle Detail
1986 Vanagon GL Automatic with Sunroof "Otto" • 2.1L, automatic, 131,700 miles • Rare factory sunroof (see below) • Clean body and undercarriage, solid with no significant rust • New complete exhaust in 2007 • Good tires • Oil & filter changed 5/10 • Weekender rear seat / bed • Power mirrors • Van drives great Good points: • Formerly a California van. Never seen winter roads since I've owned it (5 years). The body and undercarriage are clean and rust-free except for two bubbly spots: one on the right rear quarter panel, the other above left rear fender (see pics). • Engine: No major issues, runs very well. It does leak some oil. Sometimes the temperature idiot light comes on when engine is cold (start-up), it goes out after warm up. Transmission shifts smoothly. Needs work department: • Interior: If only the interior were as nice as the exterior! The headliner needs to be replaced. Former owner(s) cut holes for speakers and removed them leaving holes in the front door panels and rips in the headliner. I do have a set of Wolfsburg molded plastic panels that includes a folding table. An extra set of gray Wolfsburg vinyl panels (two for sliding door, one each for left side middle, L&R rear seat and L&R front doors), in addition to the molded plastic panels, is also included. Have one rear facing seat, but that needs to be mounted, hardware included. Cargo area bed cushion is included as well. • Sunroof: Left guide cable is broken where it attaches to the sunroof, I do have a replacement cable. I keep it shut! • Extras: Am going back to my roots with an air-cooled Westy that is on the way. Buyer welcome to all Vanagon parts mentioned plus a new genuine VW front-end cover (never used), gallon of genuine ($$) VW coolant and Bentley and Haynes manuals. Title Clarification: THIS VAN DOES HAVE A CLEAR MASSACHUSETTS TITLE. The AutoCheck report indicates this van as having had a California salvage title in 2000. I am told this is due to the van having been a "donated" vehicle to charity. There is a California DMV tag riveted to the driver's side door jamb above the VW info identification plate (see picture) re-issuing the original VIN from a CA inspection station. I'm told this is the process in California for donated vehicles when they are sold back to the public. The van now has a clear Massachusetts title. This is a good solid Vanagon and with some interior work will look even better! This van is being advertised locally and I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Vehicle sold as is. No refunds.
