Vehicle Detail
280Z for sale. This Z is a true California, rust free car. Rust can be the worst thing about the old Z cars. That is the best thing about this one. There is no rust in the typical places. The frame rails, floor boards, rear hatch bottom, wheel wells, rocker panels, and battery tray are all rust free on this car. Overall I would say it is 98% rust free with only the slightest surface discoloration in a few places. The rest of the body is very straight. The only spots worth mentioning are the jack points behind the front wheels are slightly pushed up from being jacked in not exactly the right spot. Also there is a little wavy spot on the rear quarter panel by the gas door. None of these areas are very noticeable. The bumpers are a little pitted but presentable. The car was painted white some years back with an enamel type paint that has begun to crack in spots and is a bit dull. The original color was silver. The interior is in overall good condition as seen in the photos. The custom "hounds tooth" headliner and door panels are a very nice touch. The center inserts of the seats has dry rotted. I will include enough of the original fabric if the new owner would like to have the center panel of the seats redone. I actually get a lot of compliments on the custom trim. It is well done and looks like it could be original and period correct. The sheep skin covers on the seats now are actually very thick and comfortable. The vinyl trim is in good condition. The dash has a half cover on it that looks pretty good but somehow it has a crack over on passenger side. I would replace this with a full cover. They only cost $100.00 from Motorsports and make the dash look new and perfect. The carpet is pretty worn, especially in the rear hatch. The engine is the legendary, inline 6 cylinder, 2.8 liters. The 1976 models were all fuel injected. The transmission is a manual 4 speed. The car runs very strong and shifts smooth. The engine does not smoke even on hard acceleration and maintains proper temperature even in 90 degree heat. It has had a minor tune up including a brand new alternator, voltage regulator, NGK plugs, plug wires and distributor cap and rotor. The car drives straight and handles well. The tires are fairly new and all match. It could use for the valves to be adjusted as it sounds a little "diesely". I also have not yet done the brakes and they are a bit weak. All electrical items work except the infamous clock and the ancient radio. Overall this Z is a nice daily driver or a clean, original Z to restore. It wouldn't take much get this car in really nice shape. Please email if you have any questions or need additional photos. Thanks for looking.
