Vehicle Detail
This jeep is perfect for someone looking for a good off-road trail rig. History i bought this jeep a year ago from a mechanic in st louis who was involved with the engine rebuild. he only used it for off-roading. said that it's nearly impossible to get it stuck. i bought it to steal the engine for a different project, but that fell through, so i've been driving it to work maybe once a week for fun. Engine AMC 360, i'm assuming it's the original. it's been rebuilt. he didn't give me any specs (i probably should have asked for them), but said it was somewhere between 350 to 400 hp, and had about 20,000 miles on it since the rebuild. it has an edelbrock 1406 carb, that's a 4bbl with electric choke, edelbrock aluminum intake, aftermarket fan, msd ignition kit, headman hedders. runs real smooth, it's powerful, but the truck is heavy. it's got a 727 auto transmission. Axles It's got the factory wagoneer quadratrac system, which is all-time 4wd, Dana 44's with vacuum lockers that are controlled by a switch mounted inside the glove box. the rear differential leaks a little, probably needs a gasket change. the lockers were replaced just before i bought it. he had also removed the front driveshaft to save gas. it's sitting in the back seat. Body and Interior the paint is terrible, it's a flat black spray paint applied directly over the factory yellow. they covered the chrome trim and door handles and everything. the two back fenders have rust damage, and there is a dent in the right rear corner. i showed all of that in the photos. the interior is a little dirty, and the carpet has some rips, but it's all there and functional. there is no radio. Problems all little things... the gas gauge sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. there is about an inch of play in the steering. the one significant problem- something broke between the key lock cylinder and lock rod, completely locking up my gear selector and steering wheel. i had to drop the column and remove the ignition switch box, and manually slide the lock rod back up toward the steering wheel. long story short, the keys are stuck in the ignition and i start it with the switch box that is now hanging under the dash. i'm pretty sure all of this can be fixed by just replacing the key lock cylinder, which is only about 15 dollars. i just haven't done it because it involves pulling off the steering wheel. but once the lock cylinder is replaced, all you have to do is remount the ignition box to the steering column. it still starts and runs and shifts just fine, the key system has just been bypassed... please, ask any questions or request more photos of anything. 4wd trucks are not my strong point so i might be forgetting important stuff. if you live close to southern illinois, you can contact me to take a look at it. i really need to get rid of this truck, preferably to someone who recognizes it for a trail rig with lots of potential. it has a clear illinois title, truck also comes with a haynes manual. thanks for looking..
