Vehicle Detail

1973 CADILLAC ELDORADO INDY PACE CAR CONVERTIBLE 64K ORIGINAL MILES RARE AND SIMPLY STUNNING IN EVERYWAY 1of130 1973 cadillac eldorado pace car convertible with the factory 500 big block 500 hp,factory cold a/c ,auto, and even power steering, power windows, double power seats, runs drives looks amazing everything in working order cold a/c perfect original leather just one repaint done to perfection all chrome taken off and striped absolutly no rust what so ever, factory am/fm 8 track, factory cadillac floor mats, perfect hard parade boot, new tires, new fillers, truly one of the best you will find in country.Indy 500 pace cars haven’t all exactly been historically significant cars – but at least they’ve been eclectic, especially the hot-rodded 500-horsepower 1973 Eldorado convertible that paced the 57th running of the event. The 1973 race is considered by many to be one of the ultimate low points in the event’s nearly 100 year history thanks to a number of heartbreaking spectator and driver tragedies leading up to and during the event, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the pure awesomeness of this boss hoss droptop. Just 516 special edition Eldorados were sent to dealers to commemorate the race – plus another 50 or so were used in Indy 500 Festival events. The actual pace car driven by Jim Rathmann (and a backup car) was modified with a less-than-emissions-friendly 500 cubic inch V8 said to crank out 500 horsepower (versus a smog strangled 230 for the stock cars). The car currently offered on eBay is one of the replicas, likely just one of 50 still around according to the listing. Nearly perfect to our discerning eyes, this recently restored one looks ripe for cruising down boulevards scaring Prius drivers. At about 227 inches in overall length, the Eldorado pretty much represents the height of Detroit girth. You could park two first-gen smart ForTwos and a Lazy Boy loaded with tall boys in the same size parking space. We know what we’d rather have. Just thinking about navigating this boat on the lightly banked Indianapolis Motor Speedway has us reaching for the Dramamine.
