Vehicle Detail

Hello all, this beautiful machine belongs to my good friend Paul. He has amassed a large collection of cars during his life and now some have to go. This car had sat since 1999 before I took it in and got it running. It has only been driven a few dozen miles since being resurrected but all seems good. The car is not registered or insured so I have been reluctant to drive it further. If you are reading this you know how much faster and better the euro 6 series are then their American counterparts. This car is an automatic but it is the euro only four speed. When I got the car it had not run in a long time. I drained all the old gas, replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, all the fuel hoses(with proper metric hoses) installed rebuilt upgraded fuel injectors, replaced numerous intake hoses, and coolant hoses. And now the car runs. At the same time of course the oil was changed, and the coolant. The car runs smooth and powerful like it should. It probably needs a few tanks run through it to run perfect. The mechanical needs as of now are a new rear muffler, and tires. The rear muffler is rusty with some holes. The car is not loud, but the rear muffler should be replaced. The rest of the exhaust looks good. The car does not have catalytic converters. The tires on the car hold air and don't leak but they are old with some dry rot. I would not drive cross country on these tires. There is a spare. The car holds temperature and I drove it when it was 90 out and let it idle for over 30 minutes and the temperature gauge did not budge. The temperature gauge does sometimes stop working even though I replaced the sending unit. The speedometer does the same thing, deciding when it wants to work or not. The other gauges consistently work. The blower fan works, all the lights, wipers, power mirrors, locks and etc. When I first started working on the car none of the windows worked. The rear windows just needed switches. The front windows had bad motors. I replaced both motors. They worked well until yesterday when the driver's side window motor quit. So sadly only three windows work as of now. I will try to get the driver's one working. The sun roof is manual and works fine. The interior itself is fair. The rear seats look good but the fabric is disintegrating, while the front seats are worn. The carpet, door panels, and head liner are good. The dash has a few cracks but looks good. The rear parcel shelf is solid and does not have the usual warping. I bled the brakes and they work great. The car has good pedal and the ABS kicks on when it should. Yes 1982 with ABS! The front end looks great and well maintained and feels good going down the road, with the proper direct and controlled BMW steering. The shocks look old but seem to have plenty of life. There is a slight vibration on the highway but I think that is the old tires. The wheels are OZ wheels from the 80s and are 15x7. The transmission was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago and the fluid looks like it. Sadly there is no paper work to prove the transmission work. But it shifts smooth, with no jerks or slips. The rear end is dry and I made sure it was full of fluid. I did not investigate the condition of the AC system. The exterior of the car has flaws. There is rust over the rear wheel arches and a few other spots that I photographed. The rest of the body is virtually rust free. I have not had it on a lift, but from crawling around underneath I could not find any real rust or rot. The car was originally charcoal and at some point was painted black. The paint job is not show quality but gives off a good shine. There are no significant dents, dings or scratches. Both bumpers are slightly tweaked, nothing major. I am long winded in my discription but I want to describe the car to the best of my abilities. This is not a show car and it does still need attention. The value of these cars will only climb, especially as the older two door BMWs become unattainably expensive. This car has been off the road for a long time so there might be some problems I have not found. If you have a one or lower rating please contact me before you bid. There is no warranty or gaurantee expressed or implied. Good luck bidding!
