Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 You are bidding on an 72 Olds convertible. The following Assessment is a detailed explanation of the condition of the car. If you have any question, please email. Assessment 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible Overview: Numbers matching Cutlass is 38 years old, but in relatively good shape. Originally from California, car now has 118,000 miles; starts, runs and drives very well. Over the past five years, lots of money spent to improve looks, ride, performance, and comfort, while retaining “originality.” 1. ENGINE – original Oldsmobile “Rocket” 350 V-8; engine performance solid and strong with plenty of pick up and go!; painted correct gold color. 2. CARBURETOR -- original 4-bbl, recently rebuilt – excellent. 3. DISTRIBUTOR – points/wiring replaced less than 8,000 miles ago. 4. TRANSMISSION – factory TH400 automatic -- shifts smoothly. 5. SUSPENSION – shocks (4), front ball joints, bushings, lower control arms, and spindles all replaced. 6. BRAKING SYSTEM – front discs, rear shoes; complete system (master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shoes, flex hoses, proportioning valve, disc pads, rotors replaced or overhauled. Still not perfect, but car stops quickly and in a straight line; emergency brake fully operational. 7. WHEELS – original SSII in excellent condition; painted same color as body; caps, center logo, wheel trim in good condition. 8. TIRES – 14” BF Goodrich – large white letters -- less than 15,000 miles; excellent running tires. 9. FUELING SYSTEM – fuel pump professionally rebuilt; gas tank cleaned and epoxied; requires high octane gasoline (93). No additives used. 10. ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM – new 4-core radiator, thermostat, hoses, drain plug; new fan shroud; blower fan works well; car has not overheated, even in summer with A/C on, since radiator installed (of course, car has not been in bumper-to bumper traffic for a 3-hour commute either); heater excellent even in frigid winter temperatures. 11. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM a. Starter motor – performs perfectly, engine has always started in past five years. b. Alternator – remanufactured, heavy-duty recently installed – handles electrical load well, but drain obvious when lights, wipers, radio, blower motor and/or A/C all on). c. Battery – high-capacity gel type, maintenance-free. d. Air Conditioning – factory installed -- entire system (compressor, dryer, expansion valve, etc.) replaced or refurbished – very cool even on hottest/most humid days. e. Headlights – lo- and hi-beams work well; not properly aligned; dash light brightness controlled by headlight switch – works well. f. Parking lights – front/side/rear function properly. g. Tail lights – work as designed. h. Brake lights – work as designed. i. Turn signal lights - front fender lights, front bumper ovals, side board lights, and rears work well. j. Back-Up Lights – housing recently replaced – work well. k. Convertible Top motor – recently replaced - works efficiently to open top; not as efficient on closing. l. Radio – AM/FM (not stereo, even though four speakers installed in car) – works well but is not crystal clear – may be poor-quality speakers. m. 6-CD Changer – located in trunk, operates well, but plays through radio so it is also not crystal clear. n. Horn – works. o. Defroster motor – works. p. Heater fan – 3-speed works, but noisy. q. Cigar lighter – works. r. Fuel gauge – works properly, but varies widely while driving. s. Clock -- refurbished; face bright and clean; hands repainted; extremely accurate for analog mechanism. t. Idiot lights – function as designed. 12. EXTERIOR a. Frame – very little surface rust; straight and strong. b. Body – good condition overall (looks great), but rust on rear quarter panels above wheel wells (probably caused by wheel trim retaining moisture) and lower body – panels should be replaced or repaired; hood not aligned properly with fenders and grill. c. Floorboards – solid, no rust. d. Doors – both operate well and are accurately aligned. e. Windows – original windshield in good condition – includes radio antenna – has a small ding from rock; new rear window in convertible top (glass); front door windows operate reasonably well electrically and look clear; driver’s side rear window does not function properly (although track works well electrically); passenger side rear window operates smoothly; theft-deterrent – VIN etched into windshield and door windows. f. Paint -- repainted 6 years ago -- paint job is not first-rate, but Black Cherry (Chrysler color) body with Red stripe and White top look great together (attracts lots of favorable attention). Rust on rear panels and above wheel wells, plus a number of flaws, including a couple of dings and scrapes. g. Convertible Top – replaced two years ago—in good condition. h. Boot – new, black; rarely on car, but looks good when it is. i. Chrome – Front and rear bumpers original and in excellent condition—one or two minor scratches; wheel trim pieces all in good condition; door handles excellent; head lamp holders excellent. j. Grill – original and in fair condition; misaligned with hood; plastic head lamp surrounds cracked but usable – difficult to align headlights. k. Insignia and “Oldsmobile/Cutlass” script -- good. 13. INTERIOR a. Dashboard – vinyl excellent – no tears, shines up well; new gauge lenses made huge difference in dash appearance; metal looks good; speedometer – looks great, close to accurate; odometer and trip odometer function well; fuel gauge looks good; clock recently refurbished -- looks clean; radio face and knobs original and look good; heater/vent/ac controls in excellent condition (all behind-dash functionality refurbished); all dash lights/turn signal indicators function. b. Steering Wheel – original – looks okay. c. Seats – white seats back and front in excellent condition; no tears; fold easily using back-of-seat release; neck restraints look okay (slight worn spot on driver’s side) – function well. d. Seat Belts – 5 sets factory installed – function well. e. Door Panels – original – woodgrain finish looks good; white looks dingy and dirty compared to new seats; arm rests replaced about 2 years ago – good condition. f. Carpet – replaced about 4 years ago – okay. g. Window Controls – look original – nice. h. Door Handles – original -- nice. i. Trunk – in good condition – no rust; good spare tire; original jack works fine; original decal (“Jacking Instructions”) intact; carpeting good; cardboard separator (between trunk and convertible top well) present but useless. j. Weatherstripping – new rubber between hood/cowl, in trunk, on doors. When I cut & pasted it into Mozilla Firefox, the HTML codes weren't visible in the preview. However, they show up in the final draft. Ebay won't allow me to correct it, since I already have a bid, so I'm adding the exact same Assessment again at the very bottom of this description in hopes you can read it better. (You may see it twice--once with the codes and hopefully once without!) Thanks, Bill You are bidding on an 72 Olds convertible.
