Vehicle Detail

This is a 1992 Ford F-250, Extended Cab, 2WD. 7.3 Diesel engine/auto. trans. As you can see, the body is somewhat beat up.Here's the story as I got it: The truck was owned by a large construction company. It never saw that many miles; it was mostly used as a job truck. At some point the truck had engine trouble and was put in the shop. The engine turned out to be beyond repair; so a remanufactured replacement engine was purchased and installed, at a cost of $5700. After that the truck was used locally but sporadically for a few years, then became surplus; eventually being traded in on a new truck and sent to auction, where I bought it about 3 years ago. I have no papers on the work that was done, but the story came from a source I trust; and the truck has always run like brand new, so it adds up. The engine appears to have less than 5K miles on it; the truck still has just over 100K total on it. I bought the truck specifically because of that engine. I have a Ford F350 with a rollback body that has 370K miles on it with the same engine. It still runs well but is starting to get a little tired. I bought this truck figuring to use it awhile and eventually pull the engine for my rollback. In the meantime the rollback has deteriorated significantly, to the point that I just use it around my property now; so I've scrapped the plans to fix it up, and am offering this pickup for sale. The truck has always run perfectly. I drove it for 2 years, using it to haul my tow dolly, mulch, furniture, whatever. In the Summer of 08 when gas got so crazy I used it as a daily driver. Always started well, never used oil, never missed a beat; and could haul about anything with ease. I stopped driving it a year ago last fall, occasionally starting it and moving it around, since the engine was the most important part to me. Still runs good today, but now the batteries will not hold a charge. To make it into a driver again, you would need batteries, and check over the brakes since it's been sitting over a year. I only put about 1K miles on it in that time. BODY- This is the weak point. It's been knocked around, and has rust. The inside door panels are gone, and the door windows don't work. The driver's is held up with a bungee cord; I just pull the cord off out to lower it. There are various rust areas, but the overall structure is solid; floors are all there, doors open and close right with no sag. The box has dents and exterior rust, but is structurally solid, and the floor is solid; tailgate operates fine. At least one broken taillight lens. All the glass is in and in good shape. The front clip is straight and good condition save for a little rust at the fender bottoms. DRIVETRAIN- As stated, this is the strong point. Engine is strong and powerful; always started well and used hardly any oil ever. Never overheated; the radiator is still good and full of anti-freeze. Transmission always worked as it should, strong and solid with no slippage. Exhaust was always solid, should still be, but not sure. Brakes were always good, probably still are. Tires are all decent although not new, never had a flat. SUMMARY- The heart of what makes this truck desirable is that engine. It's the same one used in tons of different models of all sizes. You can drop it complete into a decent pickup, van, work truck or big truck and be on the road for years. If you want, you could put it back on the road very easily and still get years out of it as an ugly work truck. If it doesn't sell I may do just that, even though I've got way too many projects already; but I put a low reserve that's way less than half the engine replacement cost, so I'm sure it will go; help yourself! NOTE: Being that it was bought through a NYS dealer and not licensed, NY residents must pay 8% sales tax, and will need to get it safety inspected in NY. NY RESIDENTS CANNOT REGISTER THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS NYS INSPECTED. Of course, if you're just buying it for parts it won't matter. Those other than NY residents do not need to pay tax or get our inspection; the paperwork transfers easily. ALSO: If the buyer chooses, he may pull the engine and strip what he wants and leave the rest if you don't want it. Bring your tools. Of course, the truck is sold as is/where is, with no guarantees. I will be glad to help arrange shipping anywhere at buyer's cost. Feel free to ask any questions or request any additional photos you may want. Thanks for looking!
