Vehicle Detail
This is a 1984 Corvette. Originally brown or gold, repainted black. Auto trans., removable top, shows 94K miles. The car was purchased recently by a good friend at a repo auction. As you will see the price was dirt cheap for a running Vette; so he thought it would be fun to drive it a while, tinker with details, then resell for a profit. Seemed like a good plan. Problem is he has no experience working on cars, and feels over his head with it. I offered to help him sell it, so here it is. MECHANICAL- Starts and runs well. The engine sounds good, stock exhaust is tight. Trans shifts right, brakes feel good. Has occasional misfire, probably a tune-up will cure it. Great oil pressure, doesn’t overheat. Plenty of power. There is some electrical glitch that makes it occasionally not start instantly. If it happens, cycling the key on and off a couple times always makes it start. Has a kill switch mounted under the hood by the battery, visible in one engine picture. If this is not turned off the battery will drain down in a day or two. Otherwise, the battery is good. Factory wheels will need new tires. Still plenty peppy enough to get you lots of tickets if you’re not careful! BODY- As mentioned, has been repainted black. Was a decent job, painted inside doors, etc. but is starting to show age. As you can see the car still looks good on the road or from 10 feet, but up close it’s getting tired. No cracks or damage anywhere, just usual wear and chips. Lights all work; headlights rotate up like they’re supposed to. Nothing missing or broken. Glass is all good, no cracks; top is water-tight. INTERIOR- Will need work to make really nice again. Seats are solid structurally, but the leather on the driver’s seat is split and ripped. Currently has those cheapo seat covers. No headliner in the removable targa top. Rear area carpet is loose but there; front is ok; but if one were going to redo the interior you’d probably just replace it all for what it would cost. Door panels and handles all there, but the panels are showing their age. Again, everything is available and at reasonable prices; but it’s all presentable for a daily driver as is. Console and shifter are decent; nothing broken I can recall. The best part of the interior is the dash. It’s all there and in good shape save for the stereo; that’s been replaced with an aftermarket- it either doesn’t work or maybe I just haven’t figured out how to turn it on. The all-important digital dash appears to all work correctly save for the fuel gauge, which comes on but doesn’t register; probably a sender or wire issue. Again, presents decently overall, just showing some age. OVERALL IMPRESSION- This is a good car that could be made into a decent driver for relatively little money. If I had the money I would buy it myself and do just that- a real live Corvette that I can rip around in and park without fear of a scratch or chip is an appealing proposition to me. One could enjoy it as is and tinker with it while you use it; then over the winter sand it down and do a nice paint job and freshen the interior and make it really nice again. Or a street rodder could beat it up for the summer, then pull it apart for that excellent C4 independent rear axle and suspension for a top-quality street rod and part out the rest for what the reserve is. It’s still way too nice to part out, but the reserve is low enough that it’s always an option. I would say you can fly in and drive home except I’m not confident in the tires, but have no way to really guarantee it anyway. I will be glad to arrange shipping to you anywhere for just actual cost, and see that it gets safely on a transport. Car has a NY State Repossession Title; no problem to register here, but check with your state. Being that it was bought through a NYS dealer and not licensed, NY residents must pay 8% sales tax, and will need to get it safety inspected in NY. I will get tires on it and get it inspected at cost, including anything it might need to pass. I think the car will pass just fine with tires. Those other than NY residents do not need to pay tax or get our inspection. Of course, the car is sold as is/where is, with no guarantees. Feel free to ask any questions or request any additional photos you may want. Thanks for looking! On May-17-10 at 12:57:59 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer a few questions: Tires are P255-50ZR16. I messed with the digital dash controls and everything seems to work as it should. Pretty neat actually. Oil pressure is 65 psi at idle cold, about 45 warm. Engine fan cycles as it should, no overheating. Just found the release button for the hatch, pops right up. I think I covered all of them. Feel free to ask any more!On May-20-10 at 16:44:22 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I was able to score a dealer plate for a couple days and have been driving the car around. Really goes down the road well; I truly enjoy driving it! As stated the gas gauge doesn't work, but the dash has a 'Miles Till Empty' reading, so one can just use that and not even bother with the gauge. Definitely can be a good driver for a cheap price! TIRES: Folks have asked about tire cost. I did a quick check of eBay and found a source for these tires- new- for $118 including shipping to your door. I'll make sure the buyer gets that source if you want new, or just don't want to look for used.On May-23-10 at 04:22:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Chris, the owner, called and told me to drop the reserve down quite a lot. I advised him not to, but he wants the money for something else he wants, and wants it sold today. It's now less than parts-car price! Re-read all the details listed above, and help yourselves.
