Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a 62 1962 American Motors Metropolitan. Some people say Nash or Hudson, its all the same. This is the last year the Met was sold. I bought this car about twelve years ago and am now trying to get rid of some of my stagnant projects. This car for the most part is a complete car. I think the only thing missing is one of the Metropolitan scripts on the side. I have the two pieces of trim you see missing from the sides, the original air cleaner, original radio, and the hubcaps. I started the car a few times and it ran great. I was never able to drive it because the brake and clutch master cylinders were dry. I took the carburetor apart to clean it and put a kit on it. The power piston (or whatever that is called) was seized to the float bowl. We left it soaking and eventually it got lost somewhere here around the shop. I don’t know if I will be able to find it so don’t count on it. I do have the rest of the carb. I was told you can put a Volkswagen carb on it but I never got around to trying it. The car has the original generator and fuel pump, with the little lever to prime it. The body needs some work. As you can see it has two dents, one on the front passenger fender and one on the rear driver quarter. These do pull out easy. There is some rust in the lower door corners and in one of the rockers. The deck lid is pretty rusted out and will probably need to be replaced. I had stopped the water from going into the trunk and stuff so that is not an issue. As you can see, the windshield is cracked but the rest of the glass is in good condition. The bumpers are in great shape as is the grill and trim around the grill. The interior must be completely redone. The dash is in good shape and is complete. I don’t have any keys for it. There is an extra distributor, starter and an extra rim (aside from the spare on the back) that comes with the car. This would be a great car to restore or even a really good parts car. The car has a clear title. I would like to finish up the whole transaction within a reasonable time as I don’t want to have the cars sitting here much longer. I’ll take a $500 deposit at the end of the auction with the rest due before or when you pick up the car. I’ll accept a paypal payment or cash but the car doesn’t leave until I have the full bid amount cleared. I think that is fair for both of us. The buyer must arrange for pick up and I’ll help however I can. Please feel free to ask questions and I will be happy to answer them as fast as I can. If you would like to see pictures of something specific let me know Or if you would like to see the car in person we can arrange that as well.
