At the Tokyo Motor show in 1961, Datsun, as the company was known in the U.S., before U.S. consumers adopted the home-market name of Nissan, launched a new, two-seat sports car called the Fairlady SP310. The 1500cc, 85 horsepower car was Datsun’s first entry into the sporting roadster world. After some success in the U.S. market the Fairlady was upgraded in 1965 to the SP311 and given a more powerful 1595cc, 90 horsepower engine. The new car was marketed as the Datsun 1600. The Datsun shared some styling similarities with the better-known MGB, especially around the headlights. Most people assume that Datsun copied MG, but in reality, the Datsun was introduced some two years earlier. It may have been a case of MG taking its cues from Datsun instead. The Datsun had much in common with the well known MGB. Both featured dual SU-type carburetors, four speed manual transmissions and front disk brakes. 1967 saw the introduction of the final version of the Fairlady roadster with the 2000 roadster in March, 1967. The 2000 came with a more powerful 2 liter engine of some 135 hp and a new five speed transmission. Both the 1600 and 2000 models would remain in production until being replaced by the 240Z in 1970. Technical Information: Engine Type: SOHC 4 Cylinder Displacement: 121 Cubic Inches Horsepower: 135 @ 6,000 RPM Transmission Type: 5 Speed Wheelbase: 89.8 Inches Weight: 2,006 Pounds Production Information: Number Produced: 5,998 You are bidding on the 1968 Datsun 2000 Roadster below. These 2000 models are getting tough to find these days. Here we have a straight, rust free example that needs a new home. The SRL 311 2000cc model was only produced in 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970. The body of this car is very good as these were prone to rust. I see no evidence of rot or rust repair on the body or pans. It has been repainted a non-factory blue that is presentable. It does have a few nicks here and there but looks good going down the road. The original 2 litre engine fires right up and idles smooth. It features dual carbs and like most of these cars they need to be adjusted. We have got them close but a Datsun specialist or someone that knows these cars will have to dial them in. the engine does not smoke and there is no knocking. The car's interior looks to be original and is not in bad shape for its age. There are no major rips or tears and the dash is not cracked. The convertible top is in good condition as well. Glass throughout the car is in good condition and free of cracks or chips. The chrome bumpers are in fair condition, they are starting to dull a bit but still have some shine left. The aftermarket Prime aluminum wheels are wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires with good tread life left. The car was lowered with blocks in the rear and stock Japanese ride height springs in the front. All of the car's lights are in working order and the charging system appears to be working. The ignition switch has a short in the run position so it was bypassed with a toggle switch. The stock key switch is used to start the car but it needs the toggle thrown to run. This doubles as good anti theft device as well. Overall, this car runs, drives, and stops but will need some additional tuning. Feel free to email any questions and check out the numerous pics we have up for your viewing pleasure. A clear California title is on hand and the car is free of liens or back fees. The odometer reads 10,495 but the actual mileage is believed to be 110,495.
