Vehicle Detail
This is our BLUESMOBILE used for the last 3 years in our Texas Blues Brothers Tribute Act. I bought it from the Sparks, Oklahoma police department on ebay for $1,500. I built a mock loudspeaker for the top just like the movie; it isn't real but I did wire the rear speakers to the top. It took less than a week to get a $250 ticket for this from the Houston Police Department (stupidest ticket I've ever received) so I stopped playing music from the car, except in parades. There are no longer speakers wired to the top - when I want external music I strap on a powered JBL speaker. The fake loudspeaker on top comes with the car. The GOOD: engine runs good, I've driven it all over TX, just drove it 90 miles round trip from Sugar Land to the Woodlands, drove it 500 miles to Odessa a few months ago. Drove 70 miles round trip to Rosharon, TX 5-1-2010. I would drive it anywhere. Looks a lot like the bluesmobile from "Blues Brothers 2000." You don't have to trailer this car, I would trust it to drive all the way across the US. I have the original cop hubcaps in the trunk, took them off since the movie cars never had hubcaps. The Texas state inspection is good through August 2010. I have a clear title with current registration. THE BAD: leaks A LOT of oil, I check every time I use the car. Also have to add coolant often, runs fine UNLESS YOU ARE IN A PARADE or idling a long time, then it starts to get hot. It's made the Houston Art Car Parade every year and will be in the parade May 8th, 2010. We'll be right in front of DAN AYKROYD who is grand marshall!!!!!!! The "smog pump" froze up on me, which is on the same belt as the Air conditioning unit...so the belt was cut off. It won't pass emissions inspection until smog pump and belt are replaced. AC will work after that. The internal fan unit works but only at one speed. Heater core was leaking so I routed the cooling hoses to bypass it, so no heater. The coolant was changed to the new type of coolant (not freon) by the cop that owned it before me, he said. I've never added AC coolant. The odometer was broken when I bought the car, don't know how many miles it really has on it. The transmission slips a little between 15 & 20 mph, then it's OK. I put 4 new tires on it a year ago, about 50% of the tread left. I also did a brake job about a year ago. Driver side window doesn't roll down electronically, but I manually open & close it. The other 3 windows work. I'm selling because I don't want to put the money into it it would take to pass the emissions inspection in August. I'd rather buy a newer cop car. The newer car won't get the same response from fans because the bluemobiles in the movies were all beaters but that's the way it goes. If the bid goes over $750 I'll leave the sound stuff I installed in the car: Kenwood CD player, 2 amps, Fusion subwoofer, 2 speakers that glow blue when they're on. If the bid ends up less I'm yanking the sound stuff, probably worth over $500. I will accept paypal or cash only for this purchase. I know there will be questions, feel free to email me at eb_elvis@yahoo.com. There are HUNDREDS of pictures of the car, link to the pictures is at our website, www.txbluesbrotherstribute.com. Thanks! On May-03-10 at 10:37:51 PDT, seller added the following information: QUESTIONS RECEIVED - DO THE SPOTLIGHTS WORK ? NO they don't and some of the gears & stuff in the spotlight handles are gone, and need replacing. CARBERATOR OR FUEL INJECTION? honestly, I don't know, never messed with that. DO YOU HAVE FULL WHEELCOVERS OR SMALL CENTER HUBCAPS? I have the small center hubcaps that cop cars have. MAY I HAVE PICTURES OF THE CAR BEFORE IT WAS RESTORED? well I didn't do a restore, the car was black & white when I bought it, already had the push bumper, I just made the fake loudspeaker and added some magnetic signs, plus added a sound system. SOMETHING I NEED TO MENTION: the back seat is hard plastic, the cop I bought it from said they would hose it out after transporting drunks in it. The back doors don't have a handle inside so they don't open from the insided...because this is the way the cops wanted it for obvious reasons. THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF VIEWS of the auction, I'll be glad to answer any questions you have, thanks! On May-04-10 at 04:18:47 PDT, seller added the following information: Another thing I thought of while cleaning out the trunk last night - there is a full size spare in the trunk, worn out but it's always good to have a spare tire.On May-04-10 at 07:55:59 PDT, seller added the following information: QUESTION HOW MUCH OIL DO I PUT IN - I don't keep track per mile but I buy a 5 quart oil container at Wal Mart and probably add every 3 trips, the trips average 50-100 miles. So plan on checking and adding oil often. I don't think it's BURNING much oil, the exhaust is mainly clean, it's leaking out. When we have a gig in someones driveway I bring a piece of cardboard to put under the engine, otherwise there is a spot of ol there when I leave. I parked on a tennis court once, didn' t have cardboard so I used an old quilt. I FORGOT TO MENTION it leaks a little power steering fluid too, not much, I probably add a little every 2 months, nothing like how much oil I add. Probably go through 3 quarts of power steering fluid in a year.On May-08-10 at 03:39:48 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE Sat. 5-8: I'll be off the computer most of Saturday. If you want to come see the car come to Houston's Art Car Parade - we're car #7 near the start. We'll be sitting on Allen Parkway starting about 9 am - 1pm when the parade starts.
