Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a freshly restored 1966 Mustang Coupe. The car has been completely disassembled and either each part refurbished, repaired, or replaced. Each part has been painted and then assembled to the car, just as it was from the factory. The car has been restored to original factory specifications to include the believed to be original drivetrain. Manual 4-wheel drum brakes and manual steering are as it came from the factory and as it remains. She has the desired 289 V-8 "C" Code motor, bored .040 over. The motor had a spun bearing and the crank was replaced with another original 1966 Mustang 289 crank (M-1 casting). New pistons, crank, rings, bearings, oil pump, timing chain, lifters, etc have all been replaced. Cam is original and remains. The carb is a rebuilt original 2 barrel and is original to the car. The motor was rebuilt over a year ago and the car has been under construction for a good while since. Working on and off until we buckled down now to complete. It was just finished this week and has just over 100 miles since built. Vintage "Centerline" wheels and new Mastercraft tires are included. The car has been built to the original data code of Wimbledon White with rare red bench seat interior, which too is original with new upholstery of coarse. All exterior emblems, logos, bumpers, lights, handles, and bezels are new. Quarter ornaments, window trim molding and rocker moldings are all original. All interior hardware like knobs, dash bezel and lens, glove box, AM radio, heater controls, handles and cranks are all original to the car. Carpet, headliner, seat belts, seat trim, door panels, and dash pad are all new. All the glass is original except I opted for a new windshield. The paint is PPG base-coat clear-coat with the finish as factory original would have been. There is enough clear so that it can be sanded and buffed to a mirror finish if desired, but that is not the "factory finish" which I elected to use for this car. New bearings and seals were installed in the rear end last week and the brakes and shocks were replaced last year (with no movement of the car while being constructed. All new, but a year old.) The car took first place in the first local show we entered! A real eye catcher with the red stripes. Well recieved by people of all ages...who don't like a new looking 66 Mustang anyway! Over 700 pictures of the restoration available to serious bidders. As for repairs or sheet metal, new full length floor pans were installed. Drivers side quarter skin and front fender were replaced as were the passenger side lower quarter patch panel and door skin. All valances, hood, stone guard, grille support, grille, pony and surround are all original parts. The front valance even had the factory stamped part numbers visible...unbelievable. The car is professionally built with the attention to detail and quality. I built this car to be mine and keep forever, but since found a 65 fastback which I acquired. So...a change of gears. Since I am not Jay Leno with 279 cars, yet I always manage to keep one, it is time to part with this one and get onto the fastback. Thanks for looking at my listing and good luck. Come get you a show winner and leave the rest to others! Now for the "other stuff"...I will not disclose the reserve, so don't ask. I will take offers to change the listing to "BUY IT NOW". E-mail your offer and avoid the bidding war. I will revise the listing to the accepted price and you can then make the purchase at that time. So many scams hitting buy it now costing listing money and all kinds of aggrivation, so...I'll do it this way if you want it now. Also, if you have a rating under 10, I may review before accepting any offers or bids. The car is listed locally and I reserve the right to cancel this ad at any time. Also, the car may be viewed and inspected daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm, by appointment. E-mail for directions and details. Car is being sold "as is", "where is", with no warranty expressed or implied. I will be held harmless in any event regarding this ad or vehicle. On May-01-10 at 18:14:15 PDT, seller added the following information: To clarify a couple things, and to add a few more, I revise to add the following: I do not want there to be any mis-interpretations, no matter how small they may seem. Be it wording or additional information, I want to clarify. Regarding "Completely disassembled", this was everything except for the rear end and steering components. The rear end has been simply cleaned and refurbished, not removed. As is noted in the above description, it has had new bearings and seals replaced. It has however not even been repainted due to it's original condition. Note in the picture the original tag, brass crush washers and the color red-orange, which is the original paint or finish used at the factory. The entire front end and all components were sandblasted and refinished with "Eastwood Rust Encapsulant" as a primer for the "Extreme Chassis Black" which was used for the finish. The hard brake and fuel lines are original and remain, whereas the soft lines and connections are new. The fuel sending unit was replaced in the original gas tank. The AM radio works but there is currently no speaker installed, however, the light does come on. Regarding the reserve, it is less than the NADA 20 footer rating for this car...that's all you get. Again, thanks for looking at my car and good luck. ps...This is an excellent car. It is not just a pretty paint job on an old car. This car has been done right. Thank youOn May-02-10 at 18:05:10 PDT, seller added the following information: To sweeten the pot...for those who want a bit more performance from a Mustang rather than all the originality, I have an optional Edelbrock Performer Intake and 600cfm Manual Choke Carb, as well a GM style H.E.I. Distributor and Spectre chrome washable air cleaner. This set-up was on my other Mustang 289 and I changed to dual quad tunnel ram for kicks and giggles, so this set-up is available as an option. I'll install it after payment and before pick-up if desired. This option is NOW INCLUDED in the bid....over $500 value with no rise in your bid price. You decide which set-up you want after you buy the car. Thanks again for looking and good luck! (ps...You don't get both, you get your choice, like the old model cars...build it stock or custom! :-D.)
