1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Project Vehicle. Clear New Mexico Title. Bright White exterior with tan ("Spice") interior 191,457 Miles. Engine is locked solid and does not rotate. This is a rust-free truck that spent virtually all its life in Texas and New Mexico. Only exception is that vehicle spent a short time in Tennessee. Paint is somewhat shiny, exterior vinyl woodgrain panels are sun-damaged and disintegrating. Interior is in good shape (especially for the year), with the exception of the driver's seat and headliner. Interior does need a good cleaning. Truck has dark-tinted windows, so interior is not sun-damaged. Dash is slightly faded, but in good condition otherwise. I purchased the vehicle from the previous owner, a co-worker, in September 2008. The vehicle was represented at that time as having a defective transfer case (would not move under its own power). The previous owner had parked the vehicle in 2001 on his property in Placitas, NM after the transfer case quit working. The Jeep sat from 2001 to 2008, with the hood down, the air cleaner on, and the spark plugs mounted in the heads. Sometime before 2008, the engine rotating assemblies must have frozen solid due to non-use. Per previous owner, engine did run before vehicle was put into outdoor storage in 2001. I have replaced the transfer case with a used transfer case out of a 1985 Grand Wagoneer that ran and drove. Same make and model of t-case, New Process 229. Rear driveshaft has been rebuilt and installed. Vehicle rolls freely on axles, no strange noises out of axles or t-case The Good: - New Hankook P235/75R15 radial tires in September of 2008, with no travel miles on them ($250) - Used Transfer case out of 1985 Grand Wagoneer, installed in vehicle ($200) - Solid body, including doors, floors, rockers, fenders - Nice original door panels. Good rear interior trim, needs good cleaning - Front passenger seat and rear seat in very good condition, leather not torn, corduroy inserts in place and not torn - New battery, September 2008 - New radiator and heater hoses, new accessory belts - Remanfactured starter, new starter solenoid, new battery cables - New spark plugs, new plug wires (wires not installed) - Re-tubed and rebuilt driveshaft with new u-joints ($180), January 2010 - All 4 power windows are lubricated and functional (replaced track in LR), rear window goes up and down as well - Stereo even works (non-stock) - Genuine "Jeep" Class III trailer hitch - Battery tray, hold-down bracket and air cleaner bead-blasted and repainted, new air cleaner element - Includes factory fog lamp assemblies (missing one lens), both rear armrests. Rear armrest bases can be repaired with a washer or kits from GW parts houses - Includes spare front door armrest and center armrest/seat assembly. - Front carpet out of vehicle (necessary to get to t-case upper bolts), but is included and just needs a good cleaning The Bad: - Dent in LF door/fender, small dents in LR fender behind wheel - Engine does not turn over. Probably needs to be torn down, probably needs a rebuild given the total mileage - Driver's seat needs re-covering, but corduroy cloth inserts are intact and in good condition - Headliner needs new fabric, but headliner bases (pressboard) are in good condition and re-usable - Power door locks weak/inoperable - Surface rust on vehicle surfaces when paint has chipped off - Underside of vehicle is dirty - previous owner lived up a dirt road - All carpet is in good condition, but really needs a cleaning. One particularly dirty spot on rear passenger floor carpet - No center caps for wheels This Jeep is a "mechanic's special" It has lots of use left for someone with the time to get it running again.
