Vehicle Detail
Freshly Restored (Frame Off) 1966 Chevelle Malibu done in Matador Red with White Interior. I am believed to be the third owner of this car....the original owner had the car for 37 years in Arkansas. The car was bought by the second owner in 2003 and was going to be compleltely restored. The car started its life as a 283 / 2 Speed Powerglide car. The second owner installed a re-built 1968 283 engine that he had built to 327 specifications...along with re-built 1957 Power Pack Heads. Engine block casting number = 3849852. Heads Casting Number = 3884520. According to the engine code stamped on the front of the block....it was built in Flint, Michigan on May 25th, 1958. The engine also has a new, remanufactured Holly carburator. So the second owner changed the motor and changed the car to a 3 speed manual car. He also completely re-did the brakes, exhaust, and driveline. In 2005, due to financial problems, he had to sell the car unfinished which is when I purchased the car. I compltely took the car apart, frame off, and restored the car from start to finish. I also pulled the motor apart, installed a new crank, new bearings, new rings, timing set, and gaskets....I wanted to make sure I had everything fresh from the start. I also removed the 3 speed transmission and instlaled a freshly rebuilt Muncie M-21 4 Speed. The car also has 60's 15" Corvette Rally Wheels with 225 Firestone Indy 500's in the rear and 205 Firestone Indy 500's in the front...resulting in about a 2 degree rake from back to front. Because there are so many new parts to list...I will tell you what is NOT new or replaced on the car.... Door Handles, Windshield Washer Pump (windshield squirters are missing as well), some of the driveline components (they didn't need to be replaced), door lock cylinders, trunk cylinder, ignition switch, light switch, washer switch. Everything else on the car has been replaced with new parts. What is original either was still working and OK, or didn't need to be replaced. The pictures were taken right before it went to the DETAIL SHOP...where it is currently getting a complete Detailed Cleaning and Buff/Wax job, so it will look imaculate when its done. The radio is a new...made to look like original...AM/FM digital radio with two front speakers in the dash and two 6x9 speakers in the package tray. There is ONE thing left on the car to do.... After restoration, I noticed the Heater Core has a slight vapor leak...doesn't leak fluid, just leaks vapor when the coolent temp gets hot....typical heater core issue. A new heater core will come with the car and the new owner can either change it, or leave it as is...or starts to leak fluid. Not a big issue at the moment...but I wanted to at least provide a new part for replacement later. The car is fun to drive and gets the looks...and will make a nice cruiser for someone. I am selling the car because I don;t have the room for another car. Feel free to ask any questions if needed and I will try to get them answered ASAP. I reserve the right to end the action early as the car is for sale locally. If the car needs to be shipped, I will assist getting the car loaded at a convenient location for the driver. On Apr-17-10 at 18:01:11 PDT, seller added the following information:The car has manual steeting with a new steering gear box....and just to claify due to my typo...it is a 1968 motor. The heads also have case hardened valve seats to unleaded gas can be used. The car is all sheet metal and has new rear quarter panels and driver side door skin.....no bondo on the car. On a scale from 1 to 10..with 10 being the trailer queen and 1 being a car that needs to get crushed...this car is a solid 8 to 8.5. Lastly, the motor originally had the ROAD TUBE breather system where the tube came out of the back of the motor and ran down underneath the car where the crank case fumes would get "sucked" out, etc... I noticed that the front pan gasket would let out about 3 drips after driving and the oil pressure was high....so I installed new valve covers and a PCV valve to vent the crank case and reduce the risk of blowing out oil seals... Just trying to disclose everything about the car.On Apr-19-10 at 20:36:06 PDT, seller added the following information: The car does have and will have a new dome light installed when it comes back from the detail shop.....I needed to buy the lamp socket that the lamp plugs into. Also...it has a manual choke. And just to clarify...the heater core vapor leak is not a big issue....its a very minor leak and you only get a slight smell when the coolant temp is above 160 degrees. It does not need to be changed...but I wanted to have a new heater core to go along with the car so the new owner can either change it, or leave it as is for now. The FAN does work and all the cables that control the ducts and flapper doors work. The column has a new turn signal switch...and when making a left had turn, you have to put a little pressure on the signal lever to get the blinker to work...because the switch needs to "wear in" a bit to loosen it up. I have had this happen in another car...and once you use it for a while, it will work fine. Just wanted to answer a few questions so everyone could see.On Apr-22-10 at 16:03:18 PDT, seller added the following information: I got the car back from the Detail Shop today...and it looks amazing. I added an overall picture to the group.
