Vehicle Detail

For sale is a 1993 Volkswagen Passat GLX. The exterior is a dark green. The car has low mileage at only 62,351. The reason the mileage is so low is that the car belonged to my great Uncle for most of its life, and it was gifted to me in March, 2008. The car ran smoothly for a few years, but it did (and does) have numerous mechanical/electrical issues to mention. To my knowledge, there were no clear issues with anything when I received the car (except the weak air-conditioner). First, the driver side window does not work. I took it to the mechanic twice, and they said I would have to pay a couple hundred dollars to fix it properly, and honestly it was not worth it to me. So, it stays up (currently) or it will come off its hinges. The other 3 windows work fine. Second, the air conditioner and heating both work, but for some reason the vents only really blow air when it on the highest setting. Also, the air conditioner is weak, and was also looked at by a mechanic several years ago. Third, last summer I had some condensation of anti-freeze on the dashboard and inside the windshield, and it turned out to be a busted heater core. A friend of mine was able to do the labor and we installed a new heater core last summer. The car ran fine for a while after that. However, during the repairs, we somehow managed to botch the radio wires? I am sure that it can be fixed easily if you know cars, and the radio worked fine before that. Then the major issue came. Last fall, I believe October I started to see a rise in the engine temperature frequently. It turned out there was a leak in the anti-freeze line. So my friend came and fixed that and told me to keep an eye on it. It continued to persist and my engine became very hot one afternoon. I popped the hood, and the anti-freeze container was very dry and hot. The lid was actually stuck on the top. I tried to turn it with a large wrench, and ended up breaking it. I poured in some additional anti-freeze and drove about 1.5 miles home a very low speed. When I opened the hood, I saw that all of the anti-freeze I poured in the reservoir was now pouring out of the right side of the engine. So, I assume by that, there is a major problem going on. I did not do any further research from there. I can certainly answer any questions, but the car has been parked in my driveway since then. I recently vacuumed and washed the car. The car has no major dents or scratches. It has never been damaged in an accident. The back brakes are almost brand new. I do not really have much knowledge about the tires. I will gladly answer any questions I can, or arrange for anyone to stop by and take a look at the car. The battery is was dead a few days ago when I took the photos, but I was able to use jumper cables to read the mileage. I did not want to start the car however. It will definitely need to be towed to its next destination. The car was inspected in September of last year. It has a pretty large trunk, spare tire and jack. If it does not sell on Ebay, the salvage yard offered me $280 for it... so that is where I will start the listing. The car is located in Allentown, PA. If you know how to fix cars, this could be a nice project for resale. On Apr-16-10 at 11:57:20 PDT, seller added the following information: I stopped by and started the car today with a prospective buyer. It started right up, was low on oil, so we added a quart. He also poured some water in the anti-freeze reservoir, and it proceeded to pour out of the right side of the engine. However, the engine did run pretty smoothly when it was started. If anyone else would like to see the car, please contact me. Thank you.
