Vehicle Detail
I have owned this car for the last 10 years. 10 years ago a fan belt broke and ripped open the fuel line causing a fire in the engine compartment.. The fire was limited to the front end only. The only part destroyed was the hood and various parts in the engine compartment. I sent the car out of state to the individual who built it about 35 to 40 years ago. He built a new 350 engine. He did some of the body work but didn't finish the car. After 8 months of waiting on a project he said would take two months I had to go through the courts to get the car back. Between attorney fees and what the court awarded him, the costs went well above what the insurance had paid for damages. I got the car back and it has been sitting ever since. I just bought a new Holley 650 double pumper 4150 carburetor, installed new platinum plugs, new battery, flushed out the fuel lines, put in new fuel and the engine started up right up. The engine sounds good. There are no leaks from the engine or the cooling system. No leaks from the 4 speed transmission. The paint is at least 35 years old and faded. The entire car needs a new paint job. There isn't any damage to the body except for a small ding/crack in the fiberglass in the lower front spoiler.. There are some minor stress cracks here and there from age. No frame damage. The back of the car where the spoiler flares upward has the paint chipping off from age. There isn't any body/fiberglass damage. The front hood and a large portion of the fenders are primer paint. The hood originally had a stripe on it identical to the one on the back of the car. The Dunlop tires and Bilstein shocks were put on 10 years ago but only have a few miles on them. After all these years the tires still look good. No rot. You can still see paint from the factory between the tread and some of the rubber nubbies from new tires are still on the tires. I took the car for a drive after I got it running. I did blow a right rear brake line so there aren't any brakes. I am not going to replace the lines. All 4 brake lines probably need to be replaced and I don't want to put anymore money into this car. It drove straight. No pulling to either side. The holes in each door are for the locks which I have. There are no door handles and you can see there are no holes for door handles. The holes were filled in. The doors opened by a a small finger loop attached to a wire cable at the bottom of each door by pulling or pushing downward. Both cables have broke but can be replaced with no trouble. My plan was to put door handles back on the car. You can still get in the car through the door lock holes. The seats are out of a later Vette. The passenger seat is not bolted down. Roll bar is padded. There are no sun visors. There is a 2" crack in the right side dash pad. Battery is located in a battery box behind passenger seat. The interior roof panel also matches the door panels and seats. The valve covers each had the car painted on them. They were damaged by the fire but are still in use. They were either polished or chrome. Now they are pitted and need to be replaced. There is also a new K&N filter on the carb. There is no horn installed. I DO NOT KNOW how much wiring has to be done under the hood. The rear brake lights and turn signals both work. The front lights were never reinstalled. There are no headlight motors. Except for the clock, everything else worked before the fire. The distributor is an Accel dual point type with a tach drive which is what runs the tachometer. The tachometer in the dash is mechanical and not electrical. Even though the engine starts right up, the points and timing may have to be adjusted. I didn't do anything to the timing or the distributor. My plan was to put an electronic ignition system in. I do not have the throttle linkage. The linkage currently is a piece of wire. There is some rust here and there on the car. There is some rust on the chrome headers and small dots of rust on the side pipes. There are some rust spots on the rear bumpers. What looks like rust on the floor of the interior is actually an adhesive I guess was used when installing the carpet and padding. The floorboards are made of fiberglass. The American Racing wheels need some work. They have some pitting or corrosion on them but I think can be cleaned up. All of the lug nuts are rusted. I have various parts in boxes including the headlight bezels which are primed and the headlight bulbs, front turn signals that fit in the grill, the horn, braided lines and ends for various hoses for under the hood. Although they were in the fire I think they are still useable by cleaning them up. I have the outside driver side bowtie mirror, the windshield exterior trim, wiper blades and arms and the louver vents for the cowling. When I bought this car I was told it was originally a 427 big block car. I thought the serial number would verify it but it gives no engine information. On the plate under the glove box it says the Style 1966-437. Trim 414. A-4303 body. 976 paint. Serial number of the car is 194376S123055. This car was mint when I acquired it. Now it needs some work and a good home. Car is located outside Cape May Court House, NJ and can be inspected at any time. NOT INTERESTED IN ANY TRADES.
