For Sale By Private Owner2003 Subaru Forester XS 2.5L Automatic AWD - NO RESERVE - I’ve been on eBay for almost 20 years, with 100% positive feedback, as both a seller and buyer. (ALL older cars have age-related issues. To the best of my knowledge, this is the Complete, Clear Conscience, Full Disclosure List of the current issues with this car.) Check engine light is on, due to an evaporative emissions leak. This is the only issue related to the check engine light.More info here: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/is-it-safe-to-drive-with-an-evap-leak Exhaust flanges are thin.Front subframe is rusted near the bolts.Brake pads are 4-5mm.Shifter cable is stiff.Spark plugs and ignition wires should be replaced. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE On Oct-29-18 at 12:32:48 PDT, seller added the following information: TEST: I'm trying to add some more detail about some of the car's issues, but it looks like eBay's listing editor won't let me edit, only add on to the bottom. Depending on how this appears, I'll add some more detail about some of these issues to the description. I was trying to keep it simple, but for folks who would appreciate as much detail as possible, I'll add every detail I have.On Oct-29-18 at 16:11:23 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDING MORE DETAILS RE: CURRENT ISSUES:NEW ISSUE (adding this issue that I missed accidentally) - Spark plugs & ignition wires need replacement. Possible valve cover gaskets with bolts if oil is found in the spark plug bores.ADDED DETAIL - The check engine light is on due to an evaporative emissions leak. The fuel filter neck is perforated and there may be additional issues with the purge and vent solenoids. Must perform full diagnostic to determine the fault(s). ADDED DETAIL - The vehicle needs the Suspension Struts to be replaced - bounce and the body of the struts is rusty.ADDED DETAIL - Front sub frame is rusty especially at the mounting bolts - monitor.ADDED DETAIL - Brake pads are 4-5mm and should be replaced soon. ADDED DETAIL - RE: the water pump service (a potential bidder asked for more detail), my understanding from our mechanic is that there isn't a leak, just that with the car approaching 100k miles, the water pump is usually repaired/replaced in the not too distant future. On Oct-31-18 at 22:22:05 PDT, seller added the following information: In addition to mechanical issues listed above, trying to think of every possible issue, no matter how minor: NEW MINOR ISSUE - There is a mall semicircular scratch on the windshield, near the base of the windshield wiper. It was caused by the windshield wiper before it was replaced. Doesn't affect visibility at all.NEW MINOR ISSUE - The rear hatch liftgate/door works every time, but the handle doesn't pop back into position automatically, so you have to manually move it into the correct position.. On Oct-31-18 at 22:27:20 PDT, seller added the following information: 100% SMOKE FREE! No one has ever smoked in this car. On Nov-01-18 at 07:01:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Adding the following Q&A about why the mechanic wouldn't have replaced the water pump at the same time as the timing belt. I checked the box to publish my answer for everyone to see, but eBay gave me the mysterious "Something Went Wrong" message. So I'm re-posting it here manually:QUESTION: "pretty rare when a mechanic goes as far as to replace the timing belt that he does not also replace the water pump (($35) when he got the car disassembled to that level. Maybe the water pump got replaced?"MY ANSWER: "Thanks for the follow-up question. You definitely know more about the inner workings of cars than I do. :) FYI, my father-in-law said that their mechanic replaced the timing belt shortly before before we got the car. The report that mentions the water pump is from our mechanic much more recently, as the car approaches 100k miles. My in-laws had to throw out a bunch of stuff when they downsized from their house to an apartment, and unfortunately, the maintenance records from the Forester were in that group, so I can't say exactly when this was done, but my FIL was adamant they they did. So while I don't have the maintenance records to prove it, this is a good faith answer to the very best of my knowledge. Thanks again."On Nov-03-18 at 10:03:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Sharing a new Q&A from a potential bidder:Q: Any rust on body or other than the front sub frame you listed?A: Please see previous description. There are a handful (very few) of minor (very small) rust spots on the car.Q: How was it driven, city?A: Driven mostly in the suburbs, shopping for groceries, driving older kids to school, running errands, etc.Q: Garage kept?A: Yes, until the last year or so, it was kept in a garage the entire time.Q: Do you have a buy it now price?A: No. I wanted potential buyers to determine the value of the car on their own, after giving a full, honest, warts-and-all description of the car's condition.Q: Has a mechanic checked out the check engine light?A: Yes, please see description and update. All of the details RE: the evaporative emissions leak are from a mechanic, who said this is the only reason for the light to be on.
