The Stingray has low original mileage, a numbers matching engine and transmission, and is exceptionally clean. This Corvette looks great, runs awesome, and is a magnificent driver that feels great out on the road. This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag. The 1970 model year Corvette was only made for 6 months and is the most rare of the "chrome bumper" years. The model years to follow were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns. The 1970 Corvette saw the shortest production time and lowest production numbers for any year of "chrome bumper" Corvettes. Total production in 1970 was only 17,316, which was the lowest since 1962. A strike at GM caused the 1969 model year to run for an extra 4 months so production on the 1970 models did not start until January of 1970. The body shape in 1970 was improved with fender flares to reduce the damage from wheel thrown debris. Many enthusiasts prefer the more pronounced fender flare and wheel opening introduced this year. 1970 also introduced the iconic "egg-crate" grills on the side of the car, which were only used on Corvettes for 3 years and have become a symbol of the "chrome bumper" Corvettes. The interior saw subtle improvements including a redesigned seat for better headroom and better access to the storage area. Passenger Window VV The first "V" is December and the second "V" is 1969 so this window is original, made in December of 1969. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book. condition Exterior The Monza Red exterior is in great driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a dazzling gloss, smooth finish, and deep shine. The body is straight and both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels and center caps are in excellent condition with a nice finish and no curb rash on the beauty rings. The Cooper tires are literally brand new with less than 20 miles on them and are correctly sized 225/70R15. The soft-top is in exceptional shape and the rear window is not yellowed or foggy. The top itself operates well and opens and closes easily. Often Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not. There are some small blemishes and cracks that were too tiny to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. We have included many pictures of the underside and the car looks just in person as it does in photos. This Corvette looks as good in person as it does in the photos. Window Date Codes Please note that ALL of the glass on this Stingray, both of the the "Astro Ventilation" door glass and even the windshield, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of April 2, 1970 (D02). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage. Interior The Saddle interior in this Corvette is in fantastic condition. The seats are in excellent condition with no split seams or excessive wear. They are not worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. The carpet is also in fantastic condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The door panels are in wonderful shape with no splits or cracks. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The original radio is still in the car and still works. Most importantly the original dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly behind the passenger seat, and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The spare is still with the car as well. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, and the excellent condition of this interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life. The interior looks as good in person as it does in the photos. Mechanical This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The car is a awesome driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. It runs cool and does not overheat. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts well throughout the powerband. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do the indicators, wipers, interior lights, and exterior lights. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and the override switches. They go up quickly, evenly, and with no binding in the mechanism. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. Some of the fiber optics work. The blower for the heater works on all speeds but high. The a/c does not work. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the top down on a beautiful day. A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system. We consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc., are working and to make the driver aware of a a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing, does any work to the center console, or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable, that indicator no longer works. As one can image, over time this is very common. Overall Condition Overall, this 1970 Corvette is in exceptional driver condition. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now and 1970 is particularly desirable due to its rarity. The excellent condition, the great extent to which the numbers match, and the beautiful color combination make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. While it is not an NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold car, it is an excellent driver quality Corvette that is very correct in one of the best model years and color combinations. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
