For sale is a clean CA titles original survivor 1959 BMW R26 with 4376 miles, VIN#: 364058 BMW R26 is/was considered a rare motorcycle in American. Not many was imported back in 1950's. When I purchased this motorcycle from a gentleman in northern Massachusetts 3 years ago, I was told this motorcycle was brought to US by a service man who was stationed oversea. BMW archive confirmed that, According to BMW Archive: BMW R 26 VIN 364058: Production date: June 05th, 1959 - July 09th, 1959 - BMW dealer Kitzel in Hofheim, Germany - the bike was equipped with a bench seat;He got it as a non-running project bike from a gentlemen in Vermont. How a California 1959 BMW R26 ended up in Vermont is unknown. The bike comes with clear California title, expired California registration, and bill of sale. This R26 appeared to be in very original condition but just been sit in a barn for unknown years. We decided to keep it's original patina, it's only original once after all, and focused on mechanically. This is the list, but not limited what has been completed to bring this R26 back on the road. Engine top end rebuilt. The exhaust thread was damage in the process of replacing the exhaust so the engine had to be off for repairing the exhaust threads.Exhaust thread repaired.Oil pan dropped/cleaned/examedNew piston rings. The original set appeared to be still in very good condition which supported the millage on the odometer, why an European motorcycle has a MPH speedometer is unknown to me. The new piston rings were ordered prior to disassemble so might as well replaced it.New pushrod sealsValves, valves sets, valve gaps were checked/adjustedIgnition timing adjusted New engine gasketsCarburetor rebuilt/cleaned/adjustedNew carburetor intake tubeNew Spark plugNew drive-plate replacedAir filter cleanedNew BatteryNew petcock, original Everbest petcock is includedNew fuel lineNew Front/rear tubes/tiresNew handlebar gripsNew foot rest Front/Rear brake checked adjustedFront/Rear brake pivots cleaned/adjustedEngine oil/ Transmission oil/final drive oil replaced three times during the process of restoration.Rear swing arm pivots re-torquedAll control cables cleaned/adjustedAll light bulbs were checked/replaced This is a true 60 years old original survivor with 60 years of patina and one kick starts bike. 6.5/10 cosmetically and 9.5/10 mechanically, Engine is still very tight due to the new piston rings which hasn't been broken in yet.Overall, it's a 60 years old non-restored example. surface rust and chips gave it a great patina look. It only takes a owner/rider one ride to appreciate it. I enjoy riding those BMW single a lot. Some might say it lack of power, but you don't ride a 60 years old BMW motorcycle for speed. I found myself enjoy the journey much better when I am on a BMW single. It makes me slow down to see this world better and more clear. It's simple and elegant. The less is more in this case. I am running out of space in the garage, and I had to pick one to let go. This R26 has been in the corner not been used for awhile and hope someone can enjoy and ride it as it should be.
