1982 Honda XL500R - Thumpers have developed a cult like following over the years for their ease of modification, adaptability for various environments and missions, and their few moving parts resulting in ease of maintenance and long running life. 500cc single cylinder air cooled carbureted motorcycle. Light bike that is fantastic both on road and off road. Brand new 50/50 on road / off road tires. Mikuni VM38-9 round slide carburetor paired with a K&N air cleaner. Street legal with all lights, signals, brakes, and horn work. Tank is painted with a hammered style paint. Engine skid plate is coated with a rubberized coating. Used on road / off road bike may have small nicks and scratches in the paint from use. See photos. There is no major damage that i am aware of. Bike ran great 6 months ago. I put some seafoam in the fuel as a periodic maintenance action and it now is hard to start and runs rough when you do get it started. I do not know what is wrong with it -perhaps someone who is more mechanically minded than I am can figure it out and get a deal in the process. Other than the mechanical condition, its in great shape and is fun to ride. Original speedometer needle broke causing a replacement with a GPS speedometer. The original odometer had ~9000 miles on it when the speedometer broke. I do not know exactly how many miles are on the bike. My guess is 12k. Clear title in hand. Title has odometer discrepancy listed due to change out of original odometer when speedometer broke. To clarify, by "hard to start" I mean that it typically takes me ~100 kicks to get the engine started. As you can imagine with a 500cc single cylinder bike, this is difficult. Due to the difficulty in getting the bike started and the rough running nature when it does run, I do not recommend that you plan to ride it home when you come to pick it up. Also, due to the difficulty, in getting it started and the fact that I do not know what is wrong with the bike, I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get it running when you come to pick it up. We can try to your heart's content but 100 kicks are substantial and not guaranteed. It will start eventually it’s just a matter of how long you are willing to keep trying. A $200 deposit via PayPal is required within 48 hours of the completion of the sale on eBay. I apologize for the inconvenience, but this is to eliminate non-serious buyers from closing a deal on eBay that I will then have to cancel when they do not arrive to pick the bike up. If you pay the deposit and come look at the bike and find it different than you expected from my detailed write up and any questions that you may ask prior to the sale, I will refund you the deposit, minus the fees that PayPal / eBay charge for the transfer.
