1978 Honda GL1000 in better than mint condition, this has been totally worked through the past six years, it is like new. Here's some video links: https://youtu.be/ee7Aum_eimY https://youtu.be/GCfr2aNxeBY This motorcycle has all it's original paint, an original Honda grab bar, and is stock and has an unmolested wire harness. Please don't buy this motorcycle to turn it into a Bobber, it is original and totally beyond mint condition. This motorcycle may be the only remaining 1978 in this pristine original condition, it even has a new Honda OEM exhaust system because there's no way this exhaust system is 40 years old with absolutely no signs of rust. I can safely say that there are less than a handful 1978 GL1000's in the world in this condition. The value of this motorcycle is clearly at least $8000 to $10000 or more, but I'm not asking that much for it. The paint and finish is original, it has been cleaned, and that's it. Below is a list of what I have done to it for the past 6 years since owning it. I purchased the motorcycle while living in California from a realtor who was selling the assets of an estate from Cupertino CA, including their house. The previous owner was the original owner to the best of my knowledge. The original toolkit and manual is included. The title is in my name and is now clear titled in Wyoming, and I have a copy of the California title. I restored this bike to ride it during my retirement, but after my back surgery this year, that's not likely to be an option any longer. My "dream" bike (just like the one I bought new in 1978) is up for sale. The front Comstar wheel is a 1979 due to a Honda recall and replacement, as many 1978 Comstar wheels were defective and known to fall apart during riding, you would not want the original 1978 Comstar wheelCarbs rebuilt using Randakk kit $150, includes new factory main jets $100, and NOS genuine Honda needle valves$110, $650 with labor All aluminum has been polished, $750 (valve covers, timing belt covers, carb intakes, front forks) Oil replaced several times using AMS/OIL 10W-40 100% synthetic oil including this past month, $120 The gas tank has absolutely no rust and no treatments, $200 Front master cylinder and both front calipers rebuilt, OEM parts, $700 Rear master cylinder and rear caliper rebuilt, OEM parts, $300 Rear brake line replaced with NOS OEM line, $100 Steering bearings replaced with "All-balls" bearings, $350 Front fork seals replaced with OEM seals, retainers, and dust covers, $400 Timing belts replaced with new Gates belts, you don't want NOS belts, they dry rot, $250 Fuel pump replaced with Honda OEM fuel pump, $225 Adjusted valves, replaced points, gapped and timed, sync'd carbs, $200 Replaced clutch cable with NOS OEM cable, $100 Radiator flushed and replaced with Honda OEM genuine 50/50 antifreeze Replaced fuel lines with genuine Honda OEM lines including the 160mm line, $200 Original gauges in mint condition, replaced the gauge cushions with Honda OEM cushions, $125 Replaced choke cable with Honda OEM cable, $100 Replaced water pump with Honda OEM water pump, $250 New Bridgestone tires, new tubes, $350 New OEM front master cylinder, $100 Drained and flushed and replaced differential with AMS/OIL 80W-90 100% synthetic gear oil, $100 New OEM fuel filter, $50 Cleaned and re-greased drive shaft spline, $100 Fuel tank filled with ethanol free gas, and treated with Sta-bil, $20, drained and refilled regularly Replaced both A&B throttle cables with NOS genuine Honda OEM cables, $200 Petcock rebuilt using Randakk kit, $75 Replaced radiator hoses and thermostat, $175Recent battery, Yuasa, $75Recently replaced by original owner, Honda OEM original exhaust system, $priceless. The values placed above are the standard cost quoted me from the local Honda motorcycle shop @ $118/hr times the standard number of hours and parts. I also paid a premium for many of the NOS OEM parts, as many of them are no longer available. I have performed most of the work minus the tire mounting and some work on the front wheel caliper. The only real negatives are:Some patina on the top pin stripe, and if you look real hard there are some extremely small marks in the paint, but the paint looks better than most 1-2 year old motorcycles that have been stored in a garage.A small chip in the headlight housing, about 5mm, however I have an extra headlight housing that is perfect but needs repainting and clear coating, and I can include this upon request to the buyer (you refinish it). Also, I don't need help selling this motorcycle, I have been owning motorcycles since the early 1970's so please don't waste my time by contacting me about your sales service. I am happy to keep this bike and watch it turn from 40 years old to 50 years old. It is extremely rare in this original condition, and I believe the price will likely double in the next 10 years, but that's my opinion, and I do not act as an investment advisor.Terms:$500 non-refundable deposit within 48 hours of the end of the auction, confirmed PayPal Balance, cash on pickup, or confirmed PayPal if arranging shipping Pickup or arrange shipping within 7 days of the end of the auctionAll sales final Shipping: The motorcycle is located in the Casper Wyoming area, but I do have the option to transport it to the Wyoming area or Denver Colorado area if needed, email before bidding for a quotation to ship. I might also have the option to deliver the motorcycle in the I-80, I-90 corridor between Cheyenne Wyoming and Kirkland Ohio, cost is $750 non-refundable PayPal, and delivery would be mid July, and you must arrange this prior to bidding, and the $750 shipping would be payable in advance of delivery. Otherwise, I will not ship it, and you must pick it up from the Casper Wyoming area, or arrange shipment with a moving company.Warranty: Although I certify that all the work listed above has been performed, this motorcycle is sold "as-is" which is also reflected in the lowered pricing. This motorcycle runs like new, and looks like a two year old motorcycle that was stored in a garage. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE On Jun-27-18 at 14:20:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Everything works on this motorcycle, all the electronics, starter, turn signals, brake light (activated by either front or back brake). The motorcycle starts right up, even when cold. The carbs are the correct carbs for the 1978 California model. On Jun-30-18 at 17:27:54 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been asked several questions, so I will append them to the ad: The carbs were completely disassembled, cleaned, and totally rebuilt. They work perfectly. Like all GL1000’s, the bike needs some choking until the temperature gauge is out of the blue cold zone. After the warmup, the throttle responds instantly with no hesitation. It looks like Kansas City is about 200 miles from Lincoln Nebraska. I could deliver the motorcycle to you for an additional $850 when I drive to Ohio in early July, it is a few hundred miles out of the way. However, you should also contact a moving company for a quotation, they might offer a better price to you. They often have good rates when they can add the vehicle to a truck that is not full, and they often do this. I can't recommend a shipping company, especially a local company, I do not know of any. As far as the motorcycle is concerned, I should mention that the inside covers are also very clean, so is the swing arm, the paint looks like new even in these places. These are normally quite dirty, chipped, and rusty even on what is considered a clean bike, this one is amazingly good looking without those issues. All the maintenance was done because of the bikes age, certain parts just get old and leak (i.e. the water pump), and tires dry rot and are not safe to use in that condition, which is why I bought new Bridgestone tires for it. I spared no repairs because I was really going to use this in my retirement, but back surgery prevents this. Also, the locking tabs on the side covers have been replaced with Genuine Honda OEM NOS hardware, and they are now perfectly clean. I also cleaned up the minor rust on the strap hardware. I might get the light blems off of the rear shocks if I get time this week, but shows are generally replaced anyways, although this are the original shocks.
