1971 Karmann Ghia ConvertibleStarts right up and runs great. New engine, new tires, new leather seat upholstery, new modern stereo with bluetooth, new speakers and recent service. Some rust and dents as shown in pictures.I bought this 1971 Karmann Ghia convertible three years ago as a project and to drive around town in the summers. It already had a lot of restoration work done and I did a few things but, sadly, I just don’t have the time it deserves. The car has been covered in the garage for the last three years. I drive it a few miles every couple of months. I really wish I could keep it but it just doesn’t make sense for me to do that so it is yours for the taking.It is currently registered in California and has the black retro plates.If there is something you want to know about the car please ask - I am happy to send more pics or answer specific questions.Here is what has been done in the last 10 years:Engine rebuildHere is what has been done in the last 4 years: New tiresReplaced rear shocks with a used set in good conditionNew hornNew fan beltNew batteryNew fuel hose and fuel filterNew exhaust sealsNew ignitionNew sun visorsNew seat belts with shoulder restraintAdjusted the valves and timing and tweaked on the carb to get a better idleChanged engine oil (10-30) and transmission oilSteam cleaned the engine and undercarriageHad the seats recovered in leather by a restoration specialist What I would do if I kept it (what it needs in my opinion):Fix the dents and rust as shown in the picsSpeedometer and cable needs to be replaced (it is generally accurate but not exact and makes noise – I was quoted $200 for this service)Install an electric windshield wiper service (this is a common modification to the original pneumatic system. Currently the wipers don’t work at all) and install wiper blades (I have some that I will include with the sale)Have the top adjusted (the glass and cover material are in good shape but it is a little difficult to close and one of the bracket bolts is missing). Since I keep it garaged and only drive it in the summer I never even put the top up.Brake service (they are functional but I would have them serviced)New glovebox (I have it and will include it in the sale – just needs to be installed)Idle adjustment (it’s just a little rough)Install missing trim pieces (I have some misc trim pieces and will include them in the sale)Adjust the side mirrors so they hold their position Mechanically the car is solid and can be driven every day. It shifts well. It rolls straight with no pulling to one side, no vibrations, no excessive steering wheel play. The carpeting looks to be original and is in good shape as you can see in the pictures. All the electrical is functional. This car is ready to enjoy this summer. I will include some misc spare parts I haveChanges to original description based on some comments I received and answers to a few questions: - The paint is not original, I don't know when it was repainted. Other than the few spots I show in the pictures the paint looks to be in great shape. - The top is in good shape (the cover material is not brittle or cracked). It is a little hard to close so probably needs to be lubricated and maybe adjusted. One of the bracket bolts is missing but doesn't seem to affect the way the top opens and closes. Once it is closed it fits snugly on the windshield and the rear glass latches into place. - There is a headlight trim piece missing which is why there is a gap between the headlight and the body (I have the trim piece - just needs to be installed) - I can provide pictures of the underside of the car and also pictures of the floor behind the front seats. - I can provide pictures of the inside of the nose and the bottom of the space where the spare tire is stored. - I can provide pictures of the headliner and door panels and under the back seat - I can provide pictures of the top when it us up. - I can provide pictures of the underside of the engine - I can provide a picture of the engine number
