Vehicle Detail
This is the Toronado you have been looking for! First year, Deluxe, all original, lots of documentation, and low mileage. Original paint and interior. Runs and drives well but will run even better with more driving time as it pretty much sits in the garage now with an occasional spin around the block. This is an excellent solid car that I am selling only to pay the enormous tax bill I received this year. How sad. Obviously this car needs paint, but it has its original paint. No cheap paint job to remove, nothing hidden under glossy new paint, no bad surprises. No rust holes except one tiny one I will explain in a minute. Most of the trim on the car has been removed in preparation for painting. I have it all and it all obviously goes with the car. Just about everything works. The power windows all work, glass is all good, interior lights come on when the doors open. Headlights work but the vacuum operation to raise and lower them is sketchy. One raises but doesn't want to close and the other one wants to stay closed even though the headlight is on. Gauges all work. Radio doesn't. The original interior is very good. Perfect headliner and door panels. Driver's seat has some separation at the seams, the rubber floor mat on the driver's side seems to be shrinking somehow and pulling away from the chrome surround, and some of the black paint over the chrome on the dash is peeling. Rear seat is perfect, carpet is good. Dash pad is perfect. The rear parcel shelf has two additional speakers installed in it but I have another parcel shelf to go with it. Very nice engine compartment. Working A/C. This car was owned by a friend of mine who is a professional mechanic. He got it in non-running condition as the result of a smoldering engine compartment fire. The fire was so small that the hood still has its original paint. There are only a few paint bubbles and traces of smoke to give it away. The fire required that he replace all the engine compartment wiring and the hoses, along with a new correct carburetor and A/C compressor. The battery leaked some acid at that time and made a small hole in the inner fender and a very tiny one in the right front fender that I have included in my pictures. The engine itself was undamaged and all repairs/restoration of the engine compartment were done by a professional. Look what all comes with this car:- the original (not a reproduction) window sticker- the build sheets (two pages) in excellent condition- the original cardboard pouch for "New Car Credentials"- the original owner's manual- the original Owner Protection Plan booklet with the Protect-O-Plate attached- a 1966 Body by Fisher Service Manual- a 1966 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual- the original paper tag that hung from the A/C controls explaining their operation- the original bill of sale- the original jack, lug wrench, and spare tire properly stowed in the trunk and the original jacking instructions still on the inside of the trunk lid- other miscellaneous paperwork including receipts In addition it comes with several technical journals from the period featuring the 1966 Toronado. Or keep it like it is as a survivor. Well optioned, well documented, low mileage. Always a Southern car, bought new in Hopkinsville, KY and spending essentially all of its life in Tennessee. I am going to sell it at no reserve with a very reasonable starting price so it is possible that one bid will buy it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, either by email or you can call me at 865-387-0925. In answer to questions I have received here is some more information:The floors and trunk look perfect from underneath. No rust at all and no dents. The car appears to have a light undercoating. Trunk still has its original vinyl liner in good condition. All the glass is good. No cracks or breaks.I have both large polished rocker trim pieces and they are in excellent shape. There is no sign of any leakage around the windows. There is some surface rust below the leading edge of the windshield but no holes. It is heavy enough on the driver's side that I was able to flake some rust off with a screwdriver for a length of about two or three inches. Once again, no rust holes. To the surprising number of you who seem ready to jump in this 52 year old car and take off for home hundreds of miles away, although it is in good operating condition it has not been driven any significant distance in many years. How many I do not know. If you want to do that you are on your own. You get no guarantees from me on what may happen. Transportation costs are likely a lot less than you think and I can possibly deliver it to you with my truck and open trailer, but I cannot do it for free at 9 mpg and with rising gas prices. To those of you waiting to make offers on this car if it does not sell, they will not be accepted. If it brings only $6000, I will accept it because I said I would but I will be disappointed that such an original, solid, no secrets car brought so little. If it doesn't bring that I amount I will keep it. So if you want it, you have to bid. I am not selling it out of desperation. If you sent me a question and did not receive an answer I am sorry. Almost every time I send an answer I get an error message from eBay. However, when I look at my messages, it appears my response has been sent. However again, my "unanswered question" icon never goes away so I don't know exactly what is going on. I am not ignoring you! Please try asking me again.
