No Reserve!! Get Ready For Summer!! 2001 Mercedes SLK 320 Hard-Top Convertible All Stock, No Mods 3.2L V6 Engine, Auto Transmission Oil and Filter Change last month Dunlop Direzza Tires Runs and Drives Great Clear Title Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction our 2001 Mercedes SLK320. This is a great car, and the only reason for selling is that we have a baby on the way, a new SUV in the driveway, and I already have a Miata, so there isn’t the space or need to justify keeping a second 2-seater convertible for our soon to be family of 3. This has been my wife’s car for the past 2 years, and it has been great! No problems, always starts and runs. She has a roughly 20 mile round trip to work 5 days a week, plus there is around town driving / summer cruising, and occasional trips to DC. We parked and covered the car both winters and borrowed my father’s 4x4, so we have only put about 15k miles on since we bought it. It currently has 140k miles on the odometer, and will have slightly more at the time of pick-up since I am driving it a few days a week. This is the perfect car if you only need 2 seats. It is fast and sounds great! The 3.2L V6 is quiet at cruising speed, but step on the gas and it has plenty of power and torque, accompanied by a beautiful growl from the exhaust. The electric hard-top / convertible is wonderful for many reasons. Better security, less road noise, no expensive replacement of a canvas top every 7 or so years, warmer in the colder months, etc. This car has been kept in completely stock factory condition, with no modifications. The engine runs great and has given us no trouble. It does not smoke, have blow-by, or overheat. There are no knocks. It has very faint valvetrain noise, but that seems to happen in all the MB V6s of this era. The automatic transmission shifts normally through all of the gears. Suspension feels good, handling is great, and the brakes are strong. We put on a new set of Dunlop Direzza tires at the time we bought the car, and they still have plenty of rubber. This car is just old enough that a capable backyard mechanic can service and care for it, as I have. Oil changes have been done with Mobile 1 full synthetic 0 – 40W Euro formula every 6 months, along with either MB oil filters bought direct from the local MB dealer or MANN filters from NAPA. The O-rings for the oil filter were also replaced at each of these changes. Last oil / filter change was done at the end of March. The first year I performed a transmission service and replaced the pan gasket, filter, wiring harness plug, and fluid. I bought the service kit directly from the local MB dealership, and used the expensive $$$ MB fluid that they had. At the end of last summer I also changed the rear differential fluid using the expensive MB fluid directly from the dealer. I believe I still have most, if not all of the receipts, and I have some leftover MB fluid that can go with the car. In addition, I replaced the gas struts for the hood and trunk, the accelerator pedal, and the left rear window regulator. The wipers were replaced with Bosch units last month. We made it a rule never to use the cup holders, since they are positioned directly above the gear selector, and spills into the gear selector are a common cause of shifting problems in these cars. If we had kept the car another year, the next items I would have replaced would have been the shocks, the serpentine belt, and I would have had the brake system professionally bled with new fluid. I would recommend that the new owner do this maintenance sometime over the summer, with Bilstein shocks being the preferred shock – you get what you pay for. The car is also overdue for a tire rotation and alignment. It does have a mild vibration above 65mph as a result. The tires are directional, and front and rear are different sizes, so a shop will need to do the rotation. The silver exterior of this car looks really good for the age and mileage. Most MBs begin to look dated within 3 – 4 years, but these R170s are just a great shape. The low roofline especially keeps these cars looking sleek and modern, despite being nearly 20 years old. This one has the best wheel package that these cars came with, and you don’t see it very often. The paint is in good shape, but not perfect. There are the typical stone chips on the front bumper, hood, and a few on the roof. There is no rust. The day after the presidential election, someone that had stayed up all night watching fell asleep during the stop and go rush hour traffic and ran into the back right corner of the bumper. It was a low-speed hit with mainly cosmetic damage, but it was professionally repaired and repainted at a body shop thanks to Sleepy’s insurance. All exterior lights work. The drivers side turn signal lens fell off somewhere on the road 2 weeks ago. These are easy to replace. You can buy a used replacement unit from a junkyard or ebay that is the housing and lens. It clips onto the side of the headlight housing. The black interior is in typical shape for MBs of this era. This was after MB purchased failing Chrysler Corp, and MB interior quality suffered due to cost cutting. All of these cars get flaking of the paint on the interior panels, and this one is no different. There are no cracks in the dash, but the wood trim on the center console is warped and peeling at the edges. The switch panel in the center console is loose, and the small door panel pieces near the handles need to be glued back down. The carpets are in good shape. The MB Tex seats are faded and have minor cracking, but are not torn. The dash gauges all work. There are no warning lights on. The A/C and heat work. There are dual climate controls and occasionally the heat won’t work on the driver’s side. This is a common issue that is easy to fix. It is a valve under the hood that splits the coolant to each side. It is easy to take apart and clean. I have also found that some lead-foot driving tends to force the stuck valve open. There are front and side airbags for driver and passenger. There is cruise control but we have never used it, so don’t know if it works. The radio works and there is a CD stacker in the trunk. We have never used the CD stacker, so don’t know if it works. This car has central locking with a remote built into the key fob. This has been a great, fun, reliable car for us, and as I said, if we could justify it we would be keeping it. I have no doubts that this car will make someone very happy. Please read the description thoroughly, examine all of the pictures and then come see / drive the car in person before you decide to bid. I welcome bidders to come check out this car, just please give me at least 24 hours notice that you want to come so that I can adjust my busy schedule. I run my own business, and so free time is scarce for me, but I will make every effort to meet with serious bidders so that they can view / test drive the car. Also, please be realistic with your expectations. This car is nearly 20 years old and has over 100k miles. It is in good shape but it is not perfect. If you want perfect, go to the MB dealership and shell out $50k+ for a new one. If you don’t mind an older MB convertible that will require occasional maintenance, then this one is a great candidate. This car has a clear, Maryland title, which I will sign over to the new owner, along with a bill of sale, once the cash is in my hand – and yes, I WILL ONLY ACCEPT CASH. Paypal is only used for the deposit. If you are a long distance buyer, you need to show up in person or send someone to pay the cash and collect the title in person. I will be removing my tags at the time of the sale. Arranging transport or temp tags is the responsibility of the buyer. This car will drive anywhere, so don’t be afraid of flying in and driving it home if you have a temp tag or transport tag. I am open to offers made through ebay in accordance with ebay rules, and reserve the right to stop the auction if an offer is accepted, however, no offers made on the final day or after the auction has been won will be accepted. The car must be picked up and paid for within 7 days of the end of the auction. A $200 deposit must be made through Paypal by the winner immediately after the auction ends. PLEASE READ: Payment is to be made in CASH. Paypal, Cashier’s Checks, and Bank Transfers are not cash, cash is physical, paper money. This typically means that the buyer needs to come in person or send someone with the cash. Paypal is only used for the deposit. A $200 Paypal deposit is due directly at the end of the auction. The remainder is to be paid in cash at the time of pick-up. This deposit is non-refundable. Bidders with zero or negative feedback must contact me prior to bidding – I will delete your bids otherwise. Do not send me angry emails when you bid without contacting me, and then find that I have deleted your bids and blocked you from further bidding on the auction. This car is sold AS IS, with NO WARRANTY. Please examine the supersized photos, and contact me if you have any questions. Serious bidders are welcome to come see and drive the car, just give me notice ahead of time so I can adjust my schedule. I will be removing my tags at the time of sale. Arranging transport or temp tags is the responsibility of the buyer. Payment is to be made in CASH at pick-up. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction.
