Vehicle Detail
1982 HONDA GL500. The GL500 was also called the Silverwing, it was a dressed up version of the CX500 with Fairing and more bodywork and some had bags. Stripped down of the bodywork, the big difference was the rear suspension being a factory tri link mono shock arrangement and a bit longer swingarm, and Dual front disc brakes. This is a very nice feature as so many building cx500's convert theirs to monoshock , and the factory linked setup provides proper function. The front dual disc setup, a second bonus with the GL model. The front and rear are also air suspension, which makes it super nice to be able to adjust ride in a second with a small hand bicycle pump, or a compressor. Going on trails around home it was really great being able to have the front end softened up more like a dirt bike. And add a little air its back to firm for street. The previous owner was a friends uncle that had the bike since 2011 and rode it regular and garaged it. That was main reason I got it, I like known history bikes to use for builds. He maintained it well. The inside of the motor was clean as a whistle. I do have additional pictures if desired. The bike was torn down completely, new rear frame fabricated and added to match the Leather seat. All wiring is new and done by me. All connections soldered and shrunk wrapped. I maintained large factory sized battery but in a AGM model (absorbed glass matt) While little mini batteries are cool for hiding, I much prefer the bike to start all the time as its electric start. New epoxy filled coils and plug wires used as well. Cooling was updated with dual aluminum radiators. The factory engine driven fan and shroud was maintained behind radiators. Gas cap and ignition switch are both new with new key sets for each. The paint is pretty special. Its done with traditional Metal Flake and Kandy methods. The Tank, front plate and side plates all started as bare steel/ aluminum. Then etch primed, sealed, and silver metal flaked and cleared. Then sanded flat and recleared and the airbrush and Kandy colors applied and then recleared. The paints Flake sparkles in the light and dances around, it is beautiful. The black sections of tank are black flake as well. I will try to add a video of paint in sunlight. The exhaust is all new tube, and the mufflers are stainless units from a modern 675 speed triple Triumph. It has a nice mellow sound but still barks. Heat shields are aluminum. The bike has the key for ignition and lights on, and a digital volts gauge by key. You turn key on and see the battery voltage prestart, and then start bike and see the charging voltage...very nice piece of mind each time you go out. There are highbeam, turn signal, and start switches/buttons on the handlebars. There are turn signals on bar ends and interrogated into tail lamp.Headlight, signals, and tail lamp are all LED and are bright drawing low amps. If desired I will add a USB charging port for new owner if you like using maps, music, or a speedo app while riding its a nice add on. Over all its a really fun comfortable bike to ride around. Itll get down the highway, zip around the city, or trails and likes bumps, street, dirt, fields...whatever you throw at it, the tires and suspension accommodate. Feel free the ask questions. Buyer is responsible for shipping.I will deliver within a few hundred miles of Philadelphia for a fee if desired. This is a NO RESERVE auction and the highest bid takes it ,so if you bid please do so with the intention of purchase. Thank you
