This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. It is also "numbers matching" with the last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 407704, stamped on the engine pad and pictured below indicating that this is the original engine that was installed new in the car at the factory. The last six digits of the VIN are also stamped on the main case of the transmission meaning the transmission is also original. This Corvette is absolutely loaded with great options such as high performance Gymkhana Suspension, factory CB radio, N90 aluminum wheels, V54 roof panel carrier, and and glass T-Tops. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on the 1980 and 1981 Corvettes is strong right now and on the rise. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured below, showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, the extensive list of numbers, video, and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is. As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call. numbers Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly. item number description* VIN 1Z878AS430704 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car. The sixth digit, "A," indicates the model year, 1980. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 30,704th Corvette made for 1980. Body Build Date H27 "H" corresponds to May, and "27" is the twenty-seventh day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is May 27, 1980. Engine Code V0516 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant. The "05" is the fifth month of year and the "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on May 16, 1980. This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car. Suffix Code ZAK This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car. Engine VIN Stamping 430704 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 430704, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car. Engine Block Casting Number 14010207 The engine block has the correct 10410207 casting number, which is correct for a 1980 Corvette. Engine Block Casting Date D 18 0 "D" is April, "18" is the eighteenth day of the month, and the "0" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on April 18, 1980, which is correct as it predates the assembly date. Intake Manifold Casting Number 14014432 The intake manifold has a14014432 casting number, which was used on Corvettes in 1980. Distributor 1103353 The distributor is original and correct for a Corvette with an automatic transmission with a 1103353 stamping. Distributor Date Code 0E5 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "E" denotes May, and "5" is the fifth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on May 5, 1980. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine. Carburetor 17080204 The "170" means the carb was produced after 1976. The fourth digit, "8," means the carb was built in the 1980's. The fifth digit, "0," means it was built for the 1980 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "0," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "4," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this. Carburetor Date Code 1140 The "114" is the 114th day of the year and the last "0" is the last digit of the calendar year so the carburetor was made on April 23, 1980. Alternator 1101037 The alternator has a 1101037 stamping, this number is not listed in the books, but this number has appeared on some C3 Corvettes and it is dated correctly. Alternator Date Code D 10 0 The "D" is the fourth month of the year. The "10" is the tenth day of the month. The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year meaning the alternator was made on April 10, 1980. Starter 1998217 The alternator has the correct 1998217 stamping for 1980 Corvette with and automatic transmission. Starter Date Code 0C13 The "0" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "C" denotes March, and "13" is the thirteenth day of the month meaning the starter was made on March 13, 1980. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book. condition Exterior The 2-Tone Silver Blue over Dark Blue exterior is in decent driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, nice shine, and smooth finish. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The Goodyear Eagle GTII tires have about 80% tread let and are correctly sized 255/60R15. There are scratches, touch-ups, checking, and other blemishes around car that are visible in the photos and some others that were too tiny to show up. If possible we would suggest any perspective buyer look at the car in person if possible to get the best idea of what the paint actually looks like. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette. Window Date Codes Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of May 27, 1980 (H27). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage. Interior The Blue interior in this Corvette is in good condition. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The door panels are in great shape. The door pulls are solid and intact. The carpet is in great condition with no major stains. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. There is some wear in the driver's foot well, but it is is not very noticeable and as one can see in the photos it is mostly covered up by the floor mat. The seats are in decent condition, but appear to have dyed, which is apparent in certain spots where a different color comes through and visible in the photos. They are not overly worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Mechanical This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, idles smooth, and runs well. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct with the ignition shielding and smog pump still in place. The radio works as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, wipers, horn, and power windows. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also, the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be viewed in the video below. There are a few items on the car that do not work such as the power locks, a/c, and blower for the a/c. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with Gymkhana suspension the T-tops out on a beautiful day. Overall Condition Overall, this 1980 Corvette is in good driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as any buyer can see this Corvette is very correct. The the nice condition and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. There is a key for the ignition and no key for the doors. We can provide a door key for the new owner for an additional $100. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort. Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions. vehicle video For a ten minute video of the car including running, starting, walk around, function check, and test drive on the road and highway please visit: https://youtu.be/AMn2JRuY9Go . vehicle pictures Click here to view all full size photos Seven Hills Motorcars, Inc. - 1980 Corvette Seven Hills Motorcars, Inc. - 1980 Corvette 10/12/2017 Matt: (513) 708-1468 matt@SevenHillsMotorcars.com Please be sure to check our other auctions on eBay worldwide shipping The vast majority of cars sold by Seven Hills Motorcars are shipped across the country or even across the world to their new owners.
