Vehicle Detail
96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE You are bidding on a "barn find" 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS . This original numbers matching car was found in an old Cape Cod garage after it was put in storage back in the late 80’s. I was told about it from a friend and was delighted to find it was a big block 4 speed car and it also had only 94,021 original miles on it. It had the original 402ci engine in it. The body is in great shape with only one rust spot the size of a nickel that is low on the passenger side rear quarter panel. The engine was a bit dirty and smoked a little so I sent it off to the machine shop to have a complete rebuild done. It was bored .30 over, new Crane pistons were installed, the crank was turned and balanced. Next they put a set of aluminum Edelbrock Performance Heads on and new roller rockers. A 595/595 cam was installed. The aluminum intake manifold sports a brand new Holley 4-barrel double pump Durashield Carburetor. An MSD ignition system provides the spark and a set of Accel Wires fire the plugs. I put brand new Magnaflow Mufflers after the Hooker Exhaust Headers to provide a nice rumble and tons of low end torque. This car is fast, but starts right up, idles nice and shifts smooth. It drives great on the new tires on the stock wheels and also on new tires on new polished aluminum Centerline 5 Spoke Rims. (see pictures) A new performance clutch was also installed. The interior is all stock with SS gauge package and center console. The bucket seats are in good shape, but there is one small rip in passenger seat. Headliner is tight and clean. Carpet is in good shape as well. The original floors are in perfect condition and the frame is free of any rot. The trunk is also solid and original. All body panels are original and free of any Bondo or filler. I have the original paperwork, owner’s manual, registration, clean title and even have the first speeding ticket from 1975. I also have the original "Protect-o-Plate” that is stamped with basic identification data about components like engine, carburetor, transmission and rear axle. This car is not mint and has its small cosmetic flaws in the paint, and one spot on the vinyl roof needs to be repaired, but it is a real SS and came from the factory with a 402ci motor and 4 speed Muncie M22. This is not a car that has had all aftermarket fenders and bumpers from china put on it and a bunch of floor pans put in. This is a true survivor from 1972, when cars were built entirely in the U.S A. I’m putting a very reasonable reserve on it because I'm motivated to sell, so don't hesitate to bid. You may end up with a total bargain. This vehicle is located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The buyer is responsible for payment of any shipping costs. On Sep-15-17 at 18:12:25 PDT, seller added the following information: We have received questions about the validity of the car. We did some research and found out that the build sheet was the way to prove it's a real SS. We searched the car and found the build sheet tucked under the passenger's side seat bottom. We carefully removed it and discovered the Z15 SS400 GROUP on the sheet, proving that the car is legit.
