This Corvette looks fantastic, runs great, and is an excellent driver. The car is totally solid with nice lines and no rust issues. The previous owner was meticulous with maintenance and spent over $9,000 on the car since 2014. He kept all of the receipts, which are pictured below. He told me his mentality with the car was to fix anything that was broken and do anything the car needed. He even addressed detailed items like the power antenna and the clock. This Corvette is ready to be used and enjoyed. The car is loaded with describable options as one can see in the extensive list of RPO codes above such as the N90 Aluminum wheels, AM-FM Stereo Radio with cassette, tilt wheel, sport mirrors, air conditioning that blows cold, and power windows and locks. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title showing the mileage as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice, clean, and original this Corvette really is. As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call. model description The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog. The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8, which added 10 horsepower. All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area. numbers Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly. item number description* VIN 1Z8789S432218 The first digit, "1," indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series, Corvette. The "87" is the body style, 2-door sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine, 8, correct for an L48 car. The sixth digit, "9," indicates the model year, 1979. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced, St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 32,218th Corvette made for 1979. Body Build Date I23 "I" corresponds to April, and "23" is the twenty-third day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is April 23, 1979. Engine Code V0416 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint, MI plant. The "04" is the fourth month of year and the "16" is the sixteenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on April 16, 1979. This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car. This stamping was hard to read and pictured below. Suffix Code ZAH This means the motor was intended for a 1979 L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car. Engine VIN Stamp 432218 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 439847, are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below, meaning this engine is original to this car. Engine Block Casting Number 3970010 The engine block has the correct 3970010 casting number for a 1979 Corvette. Engine Block Casting Date D 6 9 "D" is April, "6" is the sixth day of the month, and "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on April 6, 1979. Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007376 The intake manifold has the correct 14007376 casting number. This intake was only used on Corvettes in 1979 Intake Manifold Casting Date D 11 9 "D" is April, "11" is the eleventh day of the month, and "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on April 11, 1979. Carburetor 17059216 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1979 L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission and a/c. The fourth digit, "5," means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run. The fifth digit, "9," means it was built for the 1979 model year. The six digit, "2," indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit, "1," means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit, "6," means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this. Carburetor Date Code 0949 The firth three digits, "094," indicate the 94th day of the year. The last digit, "9," is the year in which the carburetor was produced, 1979. So this carburetor was stamped on April 4, 1979. Distributor 1103302 The distributor is original and correct for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission with a 1103302 stamping. This distributor was only on Corvettes with a ZAH suffix code, which this car has. Distributor Date Code 9D2 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year, the "D" denotes April, and "2" is the second day of the month meaning the distributor was made on April 2, 1979. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine. Transmission Casting Number 8640820 The main case of the transmission has a 8640820 casting number. Transmission Casting Date 3-79 26 The "3" is the third month of the year, the "79" is year, and the "26" is the twenty-sixth day of the month so this transmission main case was cast on March 26, 1979, this is correct as it predates he assembly of the transmission. Transmission Date Code B 9 D 10 D The "B" means the transmission as build in the Parma plant. The "9" is the year, 1979. The first "D" is the fourth month of the year and the "10" is the tenth day of the month. The second "D" is the shift in which the transmission was made. This would mean the transmission was made during the day shift in Parma on April 10, 1979. Transmission VIN Stamping 432218 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 439487, are stamped on the main case of the transmission and pictured below meaning this transmission is original to this car. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book. condition Exterior The White exterior is in good driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The N90 aluminum wheels have no curb rash. The Goodyear Eagle tires have about 90% tread left and are correctly sized 225/70R15. There are some small blemishes and touch-ups around the car with specific photos below and some that were too small to show up in the photos, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car, it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. We have included specific photos of the areas most prone to rust. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette. Window Date Codes Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of April 23, 1979 (I23). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.. The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. Interior The Black Leather interior in this Corvette is in excellent condition. The seats look great with no rips, holes, or splits seams. The carpet is also in great condition with no stains. There is one spot of wear in the driver's foot-well, but as one can see in the photos it is hardly noticeable and mostly covered by the floor mat. The door panels are in good shape and, unlike many Corvettes of this age, they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The jack and jack handle are still with the car, stored correctly behind the passenger seat, and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and has never been used. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage. The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. Mechanical This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. As stated above the previous owner has spent over $9,000 in the past 3 years so the car should be very well sorted mechanically. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smooth. It drives great on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, correct and complete as one can see in the photos. Even the ignition shielding and original catalytic converter are still in place. The radio works as do all the exterior lights, horn, wipers, power windows, power locks, and power antenna. All of the gauges work and even the clock runs. The blower works on all speeds and the a/c also works and blows cold. The a/c compressor is new and the a/c system is one of the major components that was recently serviced. One can observe the a/c compressor clicking on and engaging properly in the video. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also, the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. There complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day. The car runs and drives as well as it looks. Overall Condition Overall, this 1979 Corvette is in excellent driver condition. The originality, the extensive recent service, the very low miles, the great options, and the great overall condition make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. Numbers matching is very important in the Corvette market and in Corvette pricing. This car is remarkably correct and original and there are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission VIN stamp, and transmission assembly date. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
