Vehicle Detail
A beautifully powerful sedan for your driving pleasure. Fly in - drive home in complete confidence! If you haven't driven one, you owe it to yourself to check these cars out! From the moment you enter the vehicle you realize just how special and well built they are! As Edmunds describes them... "Sleek, smooth and bursting with power, the S-Class sedans are some of the most imposing cars on the road. Big Mercedes sedans have always been the ultimate automobiles. They scream success, are engineered to be driven hard and keep the general public at bay. The S-Class projects confidence, prestige and a certain amount of cold indifference." 1 of only 600 made worldwide! These cars were hand built in Germany and specially tested by Mercedes-Benz engineers. "The Grand Edition was built to commemorate the end of the W140 production line and body style. These overbuilt cars are a true testament of Mercedes-Benz superiority. Finished in Obsidian Black with parchment leather interior and the interior/wood combination was exclusive to this model, as were the illuminated door sills, special floor mats and 18" AMG Aero Monoblock sport wheels." Anyone can get an S500, but only a select few will ever have the pleasure of owning a Grand Edition. The car's special packaging lifts it head and shoulders above its pears. The first photo of the car allows one to gain a perspective of the sheer size and magnificence of this W140 as compared to other models. It is easy to see why auto magazine editors referred to these cars as imposing... After building the W140s, Mercedes actually had to modify the rail cars used for shipping to accommodate their size and weight. Don't miss out on your chance to own an incredibly special automobile that will undoubtedly serve you well for years to come. Mine is an wonderful, lower mile example of these cars. It is in great overall condition and mechanically excellent. In the interior, there is a wear mark on the driver's seat, the wood trim on the doors located around the power seat controls is cracked, and the ash tray is broken. Electronically, the soft touch closing door feature is a bit finicky and doesn't always function nor do the headlight wipers. The radio fader does not direct to the rear speakers and the rear passenger head rests do not move when the button is pressed up front. There are a couple of door dings on the exterior. Car is not perfect but it is certainly one you can be proud to own and drive about! Friends feel like royalty when you pick them up and drive them around in this! It is interesting to see how quiet passengers become when they first get in the car but then they can't stop commenting and complimenting on the quality and ride. This vehicle is incredible to take on longer trips or just drive in general. It is roomy and comfortable with great amounts of leg room for all passengers. No more complaints from the back seat - you almost feel lost back there! The two paned glass makes it exceptionally quite (have you seen how thick it is!!!), the fuel tank is huge, and the power on tap allows you execute passing solutions as needed. Simply sit back and relax, this vehicle will take you where needed. This car eats up miles effortlessly due to its power and road manners coupled with comfort, quietness and stability. When driving, the outside world almost disappears. Its amazing how short the drive can seem and how refreshed one can still feel after a full day of being in the car. This is a solid, well mannered, and dependable vehicle. Please take the time to research this vehicle. The phone it came equipped with is still present (though it is an analog phone so I don't believe it can be made to work), and it still has its multi-disc CD player (functions well and sounds fantastic), power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, sun roof, weather band radio, power trunk, locks, steering, windows, side mirrors which fold back, etc. and of course airbags. Some of the more important repairs/services over the years... After purchasing the Benz almost 10 years ago, Granite Auto Grooming in Las Vegas, performed a paint restoration and Level 2 Complete Detail w/Signature Gloss to the tune of $1269. They spent 9 hours on the polishing alone. At 84,684 the transmission and differential were serviced, the A/C compressor the receiver dryer replaced, and a few other things were tended to as well for $2934. At 90,899 front and rear brakes service and replacement was completed for $838. The 100K service was performed at 96,843. During that time, I had them replace the rear hydraulic shocks and the front shocks which were almost $2000 in Mercedes parts alone - that won't be a concern again for some miles to come. Cost: $3440 That same day (approx 96,800) 4 new Michelin Pilot Sports (45,000 mileage rating) were installed and a 4 wheel alignment completed. No timing belt though - the Germans engineers went with timing chains - these cars are built!!! Tire portion: $1082 The vehicle mileage is about a 110K. That being said... You will be hard pressed to find a better maintained and more reliable car of this stature, for this price. Just a reminder, this is a 20 year old automobile and there are a few items I have not tended to as mentioned above as I did not see a cost benefit to spending the money. Those of you who are husbands and fathers can relate to choices we make between money spent on cars and money spent on the family. None of the items detract from the mechanical reliability or comfort I experience. There are those of you out there who will make this car perfect and my hat is off to you. I drove from OKC to Houston, TX and back three weeks ago - about 1,000 miles round trip. It performed flawlessly and my fuel calculations indicated approximately 23 mpg. This is not the kind of car one regrets buying. I've owned this Mercedes for the past 10 years or so and am saddened by the prospect of letting it go. However, I recently acquired a Buick GNX and had to make the hard decision of letting my other vehicles go. So my 87 Grand National w/ Astro Roof (sold), 1974 Datsun 260Z (sold), 2003 Audi S8, and this magnificent beast have to go. It came down between this Mercedes and our Honda Odyssey for the main keeper as to what was more suitable for my family's current lifestyle. The decision became quite clear when my wife simply asked if keeping the Mercedes meant I would be OK with eating in the car and transporting our 180 lb Mastiff around in the back seat... PS Thanks to the keen eye of a fellow Mercedes enthusiast on this site, I learned the front portion of the engine cover was missing - as you can see in the engine photo, that has been remedied. The minor accident - It occurred 4 years PRIOR to my purchasing the vehicle from a dealer in Kentucky. I had the vehicle shipped to me in Las Vegas. All I was told by the dealer was that it was passenger side damage (don't even know if it involved another vehicle) and that it was driven to the repair shop. No further details. The only mention of it thus far was from the detailers in Las Vegas who indicated there was some evidence of overspray on the passenger side of the vehicle. I included the picture of the passenger side of the vehicle. I took a photo in full sun so that you can clearly view the entire passenger side. Body lines are exceptional!!! Further questions? Please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks! This vehicle is being sold "As Is" with no warranties expressed or implied. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions.Car is driven, miles will be higher than indicated in listing. * There have been several questions regarding maintenance. I use Mobil 1, 0-40W Full Synthetic for European Cars. Additionally, BG products are used to flush the oil and added to the fuel for the injectors, Engine Restore is added to the oil. Intervals are time or every 7k rather than factory recommended 10K. Yes, it is unnecessary but the motor runs strong and I wanted it to stay like that for a very long time. Keep in mind I only averaged 3,000 miles per year. This was our travel car when my wife and I could get away without the kids or the dogs; I wanted this rock solid with regard to dependability. We have literally driven this coast to coast, San Diego, Las Vegas, Tampa, Houston, Dallas, South Padre Island, Albany, West Point, Mount Rushmore, Quantico and other places. I had the front bumper replaced and painted last year due to road debris. There is a little peppering on the front of the hood and a small chip on the windshield. It is an exceptional travel vehicle!
