Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE You are looking at an all original 1979 Honda CBX with just over 20,000 miles offered without reserve. The important upgrades of front fork brace and needle bearing rear swing arm have been done. Service records going back to 1995 show very modest expenses, all of a maintenance nature or for upgrades. The carbs have Dynojet 3 needles and jets and the necessary accompanying upgrades of Kerker 6-into-2 pipes and K&N high flow air filters to take advantage of the upgraded jets. Otherwise, no major repair work has ever been done. The motorcycle is in original condition so it does show the usual signs of careful use during its life and the pictures confirm that this is a well-cared-for motorcycle. I have owned the motorcycle since 2000. I have had a lot of pleasure from riding it during that time. I am now getting on for 70 and this bike is just too big and heavy for me. I have not ridden it in 3 years and it is gathering dust in the back of my garage. I realize now that I am not likely to get on it again so therefore it is time for me to pass it on to someone who will love it as much as I have. It has a new battery and the rear tire is also new. The Motorcycle comes with an original Honda Shop Manual and a microfiche Parts Catalog. There are also photocopies of both the shop manual and the parts catalog so that the originals do not have to get dirt and grease on them in your workshop. There is a set of tools to do the carburetor sync work. The motorcycle is kept under a nylon cover in my garage and this comes with the sale. I hope that the pictures will give you a good appreciation of the condition of the motorcycle. Points to mention are: BODY/PAINT Condition overall is excellent even as it shows the usual signs of use. All the decals are there and are mostly in good shape - the side decals need to be replaced and I will provide a new pair. It comes with a stylish and very comfortable Corbin seat. The tank has a very small dimple in it at about where the rider's left knee rests. The dimple is too small to capture in a photograph and is not noticeable unless you look very carefully. The paint is not damaged there and the dent should come out with an expert touch. Otherwise the bodywork is original, complete and in excellent condition. ENGINE/MECHANICAL The engine starts right up every time. There is no smoke whatsoever, either at start up or while running. The motorcycle has an oil pressure gauge fitted and it reads very good oil pressure when the engine is running. There is damage to the head casting on the right side of the motorcycle. Five cooling fins on the front right hand corner of the head are damaged. The largest missing piece is about 1 inch by 1 inch. I have provided 2 close-up pictures of the damage. I have not been able to get a good picture of the damage from further away because it is very difficult to see behind the crash bar. The damage is not noticeable without close inspection. You may be able to see it in the attached picture of the right side of the motorcycle. As with all CBX motorcycles, the voltmeter shows that the alternator is sluggish to get going, but it has not caused me any difficulty. Tim’s alternator conversion seems to be the best solution to this design defect and the next owner should consider that upgrade. Otherwise the mechanical condition of the motorcycle is excellent. REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE DURING MY OWNERSHIP I put in a new Yausa battery a few days ago – invoice provided. Rear tire has less than 100 miles on it –dealer invoice provided. The voltage regulator has been replaced. Rear brake master cylinder and caliper have been overhauled and a new steel braided brake line fitted. Brake pads have plenty of material left on them. All control cables replaced. Speedometer cable and casing replaced. Carburetors overhauled. Otherwise it has only needed usual servicing on an annual basis. All receipts are on record. REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE PRIOR TO MY OWNERSHIP Records show that the previous owner did the following improvements: Factory seat replaced with a Corbin seat. I do not have the original seat. Fitted Dynojet stage 3 needles and jets. This upgrade required new air filters and a free flow exhaust/muffler system, so the motorcycle now has 6-into-2 Kerker pipes and K&N filters. I still have the original pipe set and the original air cleaner set-up. The original pipes each have a small area of rust where the mufflers attach to the exhaust. These are sold with the motorcycle. Otherwise the previous owner only needed to give the motorcycle its usual servicing. OTHER COMMENTS: The motorcycle comes with a clean Kentucky title. The motorcycle has been standing for three years so it will need to be checked over, serviced and adjusted as necessary. I did have it out on the road a few days ago when the accompanying pictures were taken and it ran well. The motorcycle is located in Liberty, Kentucky.
