Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a desirable 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. I recently acquired this car, but have had a change of plans and purchased a different 944 and therefore have decided to sell this one. This Porsche has had only 2 owners and was originally a California car until around 2007. I'm going to describe the car to the best of my ability but I encourage an inspection.I obtained this 944 Turbo from the second owner. Car had been in an accident and the owner took a settlement from the insurance company rather then repair the car and then purchased the vehicle from the Insurance company as "salvage". As such, although I have the original title in hand, when you go to register the car in your state, due to its history, it will probably be titled as a "Salvage" or "Repaired/Rebuilt". Additionally, although the odometer shows 59K, the previous owner said it had not been working and he estimated the car to have about 70K. Could very well be higher. The damage to the rear was actually fairly cosmetic from my assessment and not all that significant. Positives: True original, running, driving 944 Turbo. Car starts right up, runs, drives and everything seems to work correctly. Overall condition I would rate as good/fair. I have many receipts for work done including a rebuilt Turbo unit in the last few years. However car does blow some gray smoke and runs rough upon start up until warmed up. I don't know if that is a trait of the Turbo cars or not. Could need valve guides etc to address or maybe a rebuild. At the very least it will need oil change and full tune up. I pulled the plugs and they are not oily but show evidence of a rich running engine. Car does run fairly well once warmed up and drives straight, shifts smoothly and drives true and tight. Interior is in good condition but please note the following issues. Carpets are stained, drivers seat has small tear in bolster. Steering wheel is worn. Dash is in good condition with only a couple of very small hairline cracks near the defroster vents. Rare to see as most of the 944's of this vintage have large cracks. Previous owner had mounted cup holders on the door panels and the screw holes remain. Body overall is straight with no rust. The collision damage was confined to the rear tail light panel as shown in photos. Rear hatch closes perfectly and fits tight and correctly. Doors close perfectly and there was no damage or bucking to the rear quarters. Rear bumper was not damaged but one plastic bumper end was broken from the impact. From my assessment what is needed to repair the damage is as follows:Straighten/replace and refinish rear taillight panel. Parts that will be needed include 2 taillights, 2 bumper shocks, 1 rear bumper end and to replace rear lower spoiler/diffuser as it's missing. You can buy all those used parts right here on Ebay for probably around $400 total. There may be other needed items but that's everything that I can see. Other items to note. The car has 15 x 7 Porsche 944 rims with very good Pirelli P6 Tires. Includes original spare tire, jack, tool kit, owners manuals, 2 keys and some documentation. Would make a nice restoration project or a race car. Too nice to part out but just the desirable Turbo components alone (Turbo front end, Turbo engine and drive train, Turbo brakes and suspension, etc) are worth more then my opening price. Feel free to ask questions and I will do my best to answer them. Again, assume that this car has a salvage title and an odometer issue when considering bidding. Car is available and I encourage an inspection. Car will be sold to the highest bidder with no reserve. Car is being sold as is, where is and pick up or shipping is high bidder responsibility. I will certainly assist working with your shipper. Thanks for looking!
