1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible VIN # 1412935627 1600cc Motor Motor Number: AE 253639 4 Speed Transmission Axle Ratio: 3.88 Odometer read 07966.1 (title from 1990 reads 97857 miles) Have the title in hand. The car is in ruff shape. Running car but will needs a lot of work to restore. The car ran and drove when we got it and parked it inside for storage. We got the car in November 2002. The previous owner had the car for 12 years prior to that.. The car seems to be mostly complete with some extra parts under the hood. Drivetrain Motor number (AE 253639) shows that it is the right motor for this car. The motors seems to run fine. We hooked up a remote gas source to the fuel pump and ran the motor for awhile with no problems. Started right up. You can put it in gear and drive the car but the brake pedal is to the floor so there was no brakes except emergency brake. Body The floor pan was not as bad as I thought. There is places where the coating is missing and there is surface rust. The major places of floor pan damage that I found are under the seats. The right side has been cut out and replaces with some sheet metal. The left side some has rust out places and might have sheet metal above the floor pan. (SEE PICS) The body will need a lot of work. Both rocker panels are rusted out along the bottoms and lower edges. (SEE PICS)The front left fender look to have a lot of bondo. (SEE PICS)Right fender look OK.Both doors look OK. Windows wind up and down.Left quarter panel has heavy rust at the bottom. (SEE PICS)Right quarter panel has heavy rust at the bottom. (SEE PICS)Front hood has some heavy surface rust on the front edge.Engine cover has some rust along the lower edge and some damage on the right side. May have some filler in that area. (SEE PICS)Front bumper looks straight but is rusty.Rear bumper look straight but has some surface rust.Convertible top look good but will need a good cleanup.Convertible top will open but not all the way. (did not want to force it)NO back glass. Interior Interior look old and worn. The seat look like original seats and are not in too bad shape. The door panels are missing. Carpet look dirty and worn. Dash cover shows it's age.
