Vehicle Detail

1974 Honda MR50 Elsinore motocross motorcycle offered for sale. The MR50 was the first purpose built motorcycle and the first two-stroke engine for racing offered by Honda. Originally sold in Australia and then offered into the North American market, it was only made for two years. Motocross and Super motocross professional racer Mike LaRocco started his racing career on such a bike. A rare, 5000 units built, and slightly unknown piece of Honda history. The MR50 has a 49cc two stroke engine, 3 speed transmission and foot starter. All clutch and brake controls are similar to the larger bikes that Honda offered. It came with knobby tires, fiberglass fenders and looked very similar to its larger siblings. All controls are similar to larger bikes, ie. Foot shifter, hand throttle and clutch. It was equipped with a 4 position governor for the junior rider. This was bought from the original owner, a very good, longtime friend. This MR50 was restored to its original condition keeping as many of the original parts as possible. The handle bars were replated by Graves Plating, other chrome is excellent except for a small spot on the rear wheel. The detailed restoration was done according to the guidelines published by the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. The engine received a new piston set and a slightly milled head. It was then painted in the correct shade of Honda silver. The engine has about an hour total run time. The frame, swing arm, and all attaching pieces were sand blasted and professionally painted black. The fenders were replaced with NOS units and with the fuel tank were painted, 2 stage paint, clear coated, in the one year only Daytona Orange. The correct decals were replaced. New tires, tubes and liners were installed. There are probably less than 5 miles on the restoration. This MR50 was restored to show and in my ownership has received the following: Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Grand National Senior Award. AACA National Awards Committee Outstanding Vehicle for 2007 nominee AACA Preservation Award, twice. Hilton Head Island Concours de Elegance, Palmetto Class Award, twice. Riding Into History Annual Concours de Elegance Best in Class Award plus numerous other awards. Antique Motorcycle Club of America (VMCA) first Junior Award (98.5/100) Mar. 2017 All awards and documentation will convey with this bike when it is sold. The seller is a member of the Antique Automobile Club, American Motorcycle Club, Japanese Vintage Motorcycle Club and the Historical Motorcycle Society. The winning bidder will be required pay a $500 non-refundable deposit within 48 hours after the auction closes. The balance will be paid in cash at the time of pickup; I can hold the bike for 10 days after receiving the deposit. No warranty is implied or applied, the buyer is responsible for all shipping and insurance costs. The seller will supply a Bill of Sale at the time of final payment. There is no title because Fl. does not require one for off-road vehicles.Understand that this is not like any other being offered on this site, this is a quality bike with provenance to warrant the cost. This auction may end earlier than posted because it has been advertised on other media. Please post any questions or call at 904-608-2053. .
