Vehicle Detail

This is one of the pre-fire 100th Anniversary Bonnevilles. Baxter Cycle told me that fewer than 95 were built before the fire destroyed the factory. These were titled as 2002's, the actual year of the 100th anniversary. The fire was in March of 2002. Production began again in October of 2002, but those bikes were titled as 2003's. This bike was built before the fire in February of 2002, hence it is one of the very rare pre-fire bikes. I acquired the bike from Baxter Cycle in Marne, Iowa. In 2015 I had my local Triumph dealership go through it to find any issues. The only issue discovered was leaking fork seals, so I had them resealed. At that time I also had them do a complete service, and replace the tubes and tires. The tires chosen were the same tires as were included on the bike as original equipment. This is a great bike ... it is a veritable time machine, transporting the rider back to an era when British iron ruled the roadways across the world. Look at the pictures. If you want additional views, let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate you. Don't forget that this bike was actually built in England, as was true for the old bikes that it commemorates. For the last 10 years, Triumph has been building the classic twins over in Thailand. The modern Thai built bikes are very nice. But if you're commemorating old British motorcycles, it is especially nice when the commemorative models be built in Britain too. In the pictures you will also see that I have the Triumph goodie bag that includes the black zipped pouch, the Triumph key ring, the RAT membership card, and I also have three owner's manuals. Why three owner's manuals? Because the original owner's manual was not included in the sale from Baxter, but Baxter did their best to come up with an owner's manual that would cover the bike. One of the three does cover the 790cc model. The others are for 865 cc models. I've owned both the 790 and the 865. In all honesty, the 790 was the greater fun. It's carburetted instead of fuel injected, and it seems to have more snap. I love the bike. It reminds me of my 1970 Royal Enfield 750cc Interceptor Mk II. Except that that this Triumph T100 is more powerful, has a great electrical system, great brakes, great carburetion, and handles better to boot. It's a five speed gear box. There are gobs of torque. I have several other motorcycles that I ride when I want to go somewhere. I ride this one when I have no where specific to go. I ride it once a month, on a 35 mile loop. It never sees gasohol. I only use real 100% gasoline. It lives indoors in my heated, cooled, and humidity controlled shop. No leaks of any kind. I have never had to clean up under this bike. The only issue I know of is that I have to keep the battery charged up. It's a very easily started bike, but the battery is a bit long in the tooth. I rode it today and when I returned to the office, the odometer was just shy of 3227 miles. I may ride it again, but I'm sure that the miles will be less than 3300 when it sells. Note that the screws that hold the seat on at the rear have been replaced with very nice knurled knobs that can easily be removed or installed without tools. Baxter told me that the exhaust air injection system had been removed by a previous owner. I expect that most owners would have done this in 2002. The speedometer and tachometer are of the old mechanical analog type, and the odometer reset is mechanical, just like the old bikes that this one commemorates. It handles beautifully and is a joy to ride. This year is Triumph's 115th, and it would be a good time to let someone else begin to enjoy the bike. I've recently retired, and we are downsizing. I need to reduce the number of things that I'm curating. If you use the Buy It Now option, I'll throw in a copy of the official Triumph Service Manual. So ... local pickup is free after confirmed payment has been received. No test rides. This is a classic bike and a test ride should not be necessary to determine whether or not you would like to own it. It is set up for the classic standard upright British riding position, it handles well, it pulls strong, it starts easily, and everything works. We live off of I-40 halfway between Nashville and Knoxville. If you want to have the bike shipped, you will have to make the arrangements yourself, but I will be happy to cooperate with your shipper to facilitate your receipt of the bike. If you have questions, please ask them before bidding. Please do not bid if you do not have the ability to honor your bid. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE AUCTIONS WHERE THE RESERVE IS SET JUST BELOW THE BUY IT NOW PRICE. THE RESERVE IS SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER AND WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE I WAS OFFERED THAT AMOUNT IN TRADE LAST FALL WHEN I DISCUSSED THE POSSIBILITY OF A TRADE TOWARD A NEW TRIUMPH.
