Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE No Reserve!! 2003 Mazda Miata 1.8L Engine Auto Transmission Runs and Drives Great Clear Title This car has not been MD State Inspected, so it can only be sold to a non-Maryland resident. Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 2003 Mazda Miata. These are great little cars that have a great reputation. They are fun to drive, handle well, are reliable, cheap to run, and cheap to maintain. Not many cars will give you more smiles per mile than a Miata. Spring is here and summer is just around the corner so don’t miss out! Pick this one up and start enjoying the top-down weather now! This little Miata is not perfect, but it is in decent condition for the age. The 1.8L engine runs great, has plenty of power, and does not over-heat, or have blow-by. I replaced the spark plugs about 2 months ago with NGKs. The auto transmission shifts up and down through all of its gears normally without any problems. The suspension feels OK for the age, but would probably improve with some new shocks. The NB miata suspension is definitely an improvement over the earlier NA Miatas. It is much more comfortable going over bumps, and the 17” factory rims make the car feel much more stable in the corners. The brakes feel strong. This car is an absolute pleasure to drive. I’ve popped the top down and cruised the back roads to and from work a few times, but it also handles the highway with ease. The 2003 Miata has the VVT head, so it feels more powerful in the lower RPM ranges than the earlier models. This car does have a slow oil leak around the drain plug for the oil pan. Looks to me like there is a non-standard bolt in the pan and oil is seeping around it. The fix may just be a matter of getting the correct bolt and crush washer, but it may be the case that someone has stripped the threads in the pan and done a cheap home repair job. Still, I would not consider that a major repair. The cream interior is in average shape for this age of miata. The carpets have some minor staining and door panels have some scratches on them, but look clean overall. The leather seats are comfortable and supportive, but there are some small tears and cracks on them. There are no cracks on the dash. There are driver and passenger airbags. There is a factory Nardi steering wheel. It is better looking and more comfortable compared to the earlier NA steering wheels. The radio works but its display is scrambled. The heater pumps out great heat. The A/C works too. All of the dash lights and gauges work, and no warning lights are showing. Windshield wipers work. There are power locks, power windows, power mirrors, and cruise control. The small dash panel beneath the steering column and the cover for the fuse box are both missing, but should be easy to find from a junkyard, Miata forum or Ebay. The maroon exterior paint looks great from 10 feet away, but there are some definite imperfections. Up close you can see light scratches and chips in the paint in numerous locations. Some of this is visible in the pictures if you look closely, but it is all over the car. The bottom of the front bumper is scuffed. The plastic under-tray that bolts beneath the engine is missing, but should be easy to replace. Overall, the body and undercarriage are solid. There is rust in front of the rear wheel arches on both sides (pictured) and the passenger’s side rear wheel is flaking a little bit (pictured). The Kumho tires have about half their tread left. The glass is all good. The engine bay is extremely clean for the age of the car. The tan / cream top is a bit faded and has a few small tears (pictured). They do not leak significantly, and may be able to be patched, although replacement tops can be found relatively cheap on Ebay. The power antenna does not work. This Miata would make a great daily or summer driver for someone. It is absolutely wonderful to drive, and especially with the top down. I would say that this Miata is in overall average condition for the age and mileage. It is not in showroom condition, it is not perfect, it has obvious faults and will need some work, but it is still a nice car. No tire-kickers please. If you are looking for a perfect one, I believe the 2017 Miatas start at around $25k at your local Mazda dealership. Please read the description thoroughly, examine all of the pictures and then come see / drive the car in person before you decide to bid. I welcome bidders to come check out this car, just please give me at least 24 hours notice that you want to come so that I can adjust my busy schedule.
