1987 Land Rover Defender Tithonus 110. This vehicle was hand selected by the UK Ministry of Defense to undergo project Tithonus. This is where the MOD did a comprehensive rebuild of the vehicle covering all areas. Many new parts were fitted including engine, gearbox, axles, brakes and suspension. This particular example benefited from many new body panels including hood, both front doors and door tops, rear door and Wolf GRP hard top. All Tithonus models received the Wolf upgrade to fully integrated internal rear roll cage and front external roll over protection. New Exmoor Trim seating throughout this included twin rear wolf bench seats with inertia reel seatbelts. Upgrade included heavy duty Wolf steel rims and Michelin Tires, custom made acoustic rubber matting for the floors, footwells and seatbox. Front rifle mounts, reinforced body with tread plating to hood, fender tops and sill panels. This 110 Defender features Full NATO tow pintle with 12 volt electric hookup. Twin jerry can side lockers, hood mounted spare wheel carrier & heavy duty bumper with recovery points front and rear. Engine 2.5L Diesel Non turbo 12J. This was fitted in 2009 during its rebuild. It starts first time of the key every time and runs without smoking or using any fluids. Recent fluid change and service on a very healthy engine. Transmission 5 speed LT77 gearbox with Hi Lo transfer box. Shifts very smoothly without play in the box, Hi/Low works as it should without any whines, clunks etc. Clutch is very smooth. Axle Heavy duty Salisbury rear axle (drum) and Heavy duty rear suspension Suspension Heavy duty suspension front and rear, drives very nice down the road, nice and tight. Body Body and paint is in very good condition, it does have some age related marks as to be expected however is very presentable. It was resprayed MOD green during its rebuild in 2009. Doors/Bulkhead/Frame It had brand new doors fitted in 2009, they have never been welded and are completely solid without any rust. The bulkhead has never been repaired and is solid throughout. The frame/Chassis is original to the vehicle and has its VIN present it has never been repaired, it’s one of the cleanest frames we have ever seen. There is no rust please see pictures to see how clean it is. During its rebuild in 2009 MOD rust proofed it. Lighting it has correct Military lighting, everything functions as it should and is in great condition. Extras Heavy Duty Oil cooler and oil temp gauge, Heavy duty cooling fan and new water pump fitted, New battery fitted, Composite Wolf hard top, Internal/external roll cage system, Acoustic sound proof matting throughout, Rear load bed mat and bench seats with belts, New Exmoor soft top installed. Pictures show the Land Rover with hard top and soft top with roof removed.
