Vehicle Detail

1970 Honda CT70 "Silver Tag".This bike was built early in the first model year 1969.CT70 fans call these early bikes "Siver Tags" because they were the first production run built in 1969. They have a silver tag sticker on the fork neck and the vin number was stamped into the side of the frame. Later that year they switched to the standard riveted black tag with the date of manufacture on the neck. The story goes that the first 16000 bikes were Silver Tags so this bike is #11,498.I didn't know all of this when I bought the bike but now I think it should stay "as is" with the "patina" of 47 yrs or be professionally restored. I rebuilt the original carb, cleaned the tank and installed new fuel lines and she fired right up!I bought new tires and tubes (included), but decided to leave the original Nittos on to show the unrestored nature of the bike. New battery, air filter and boot, fuel lines, oil changed. The original plastic fuel tank is excellent so no fuel/rust worries. The bike had a blue California plate which expired in 1973 so it was out of the CA DMV system.Bike passed a CHP VIN number inspection so I have a new title in my name and the plates are good until December 2016.Its in good shape for 47 yrs. with minor surface rust here and there. Paint is faded with some scratches and past touch ups. Exhaust is in good shape, not rusted. Original lipped fenders are good with aged chrome and 1 small dent in the rear fender. Seat is good, still supple with no rips but some rust on the chrome rivets. The folding handlebar casting had a cracked notch so I replaced with a polished OEM unit. Someone did a bad job replacing/fixing the main Honda decal. The red shock upper covers are dented and the headlight bracket has some damage. It's not cherry but it's all there. Perfect bike for a pro restoration!Included also are points and condensor that I bought but didn't need and some misc parts and tools. Buyer is responsible for arranging pickup/shipping. From the internet-The Silver Tag bikes were the first production run in 1969. The US version was released on June 26th 1969. During the initial two month period they produced around 16,000 CT’s that had the “Silver Tag”. In September they went to a riveted black VIN tag that included the VIN and Month/Year of manufacturing on the neck. Honda made changes to many features over a few short months. This Silver Tags were numbered between 100001 and approx. 116000.Some special Silver Tag features from Internet research-Silver Tag sticker with no rivets on neck, Black NGK logo on plug cap, black backed horn held together by phillips screws, taillight wire goes through hole in frame, Front Fender lip, tool kit holder is bolted (not welded) to the seat, rear brake stabilizer is a flat piece with no bends, chain guard held on by Philips screws, one piece stator cover, thinner handlebar knobs.
