Vehicle Detail

1965 Buick Special 2 door Convertible. Tan / beige body and top. Wildcat 310, V-8 engine. 30,319 miles. No air conditioning, power steering, drum brakes, mechanical windows, mechanical seats, push button AM radio. Bought off the showroom floor in 1965 and only owned by one person, my Mom. She drove it locally when she was driving. The car has been in her enclosed garage in Studio City, California, and not driven or run for at least 10 years (she owned another car). She passed away last year and it is time to sell the car to a good home. Engine was running fine before it was garaged. Car hasn’t been started for at least 10 years. Body and top are in good shape (although I don’t know if the convertible top motor works or not). No major accidents. May have been repainted once. Front seat upholstery has some splits, back seat upholstery is in better shape. Has all of the original hubcaps and also original yellow on black California license plates PFP 993. Registration is current. Sold as is. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. So...... this battered and torn car was only driven 30K miles in a 41 year period? If it was parked inside how did the interior get worn so bad? Why does it look like its been outside for several years? May have been painted too? Come on man!! It has 130K miles I am sure. Here is my response... Actually it's 51 years :-) My parents lived in 4 locations in those 51 years (Van Nuys, Studio City, Studio City and Studio City), all within about a 5 mile circle of each other. My Mom didn't work so there are no commute miles. My Dad said the longest trip they took in the car was once from L.A. to Las Vegas and back. My Mom used the car to take her kids to school (within 1 or 2 miles of our houses) and run errands. For the upholestery, all I can say is that it wore out. It's been sitting in the sun and heat of Los Angeles for lots of those 51 years. I know my parents replaced the plastic rear window at least once, since the plastic went completely opaque from sun exposure. As I said in the description, I think the car may have been repainted once, although my Dad doesn't really remember. If it was, the color was either identical or close to the original color, I remember the car being the color in the picture since I was a kid. Also, if it was repainted, I don't know why, but it wasn't because of any major accident. There may have been some minor things, but my Mom was never involved in anything approaching a major accident. I'll take care of that in the next day or two and post them. On Jul-04-16 at 20:23:01 PDT, seller added the following information: A day ago I received the following comment from somebody... Hello nice buick, please sent me some pictures from inside the trunk, under trunkmat, and some from the underside, you dont have put the car in the lift, you can make from the floor. In response to his question, I took some photos and posted them earlier today, and now have time to write about them. I took a picture of the trunk when I opened it. The original jack is there along with a spare tire. The inside sides of the trunk look okay. I peeled off the trunk mat from the bottom of the trunk, and as the pictures show, the area under the cover was rusted. The trunk mat was some sort of plastic and broke into pieces as I pulled it off, and I threw the pieces away. There were some spots rusted through but it seem generally structurally sound. I took a picture from underneath the car, and it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue from underneath. I tried to take and post a few other pictures of the underside of the car, but that was difficult since the car is sitting on four flat tires and there isn't too much ground clearance. I got a picture of the muffler, and it looks okay. I didn't see any rust underneath the car, other than at the bottom of the trunk area. Best I can speculate, is that maybe there was some standing water in the trunk, maybe from a leak, that rusted the floor of the trunk from the inside? The glove compartment doesn't seem to have a back. It just kind of opens into the space behind the dashboard. Just to confirm, all 4 original hubcaps are with the car. I observed the driver's side rear view mirror is missing. The bracket is there but the mirror is gone. The convertible top cover, for when the top is down, was in the trunk all folded up in a plastic bag. I unfolded the cover and took a picture. It smelled musty, and given that it is has been folded up in the bag for so long, I'm doubtful the creases in the cover will go away.On Jul-06-16 at 11:29:11 PDT, seller added the following information: As a heads up for whoever the potential buyer may be. The car was in my Mom's name when she died. I couldn't find the title for the car and went to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). I told them I planned on selling the car. I brought up to date all of the registration fees and updated the DMV records. They suggested it would be more efficient not to get a new title piece of paper in my Dad's name (since the car passed to him on my Mom's death) and instead that when someone bought the car, the buyer could file the bill of sale and a request for a duplicate title (along with some paperwork the DMV gave me with my Dad's signature) that would cause the DMV to issue the new title piece of paper directly in the buyers name. I mention this because if the buyer needs the car shipped out of the United States, the paperwork I have may be too non-standard for authorities (i.e. I don't know if they can only work with an existing title or can work with the title transferring to the buyer on the sale). I'll work with any buyer to make sure they get what they need for shipping. On Jul-06-16 at 14:55:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Okay, per a potential buyers request, I've checked to see if the engine turns freely. I put the car into neutral, and then used an 8 inch socket wrench on the power steering unit bolt, turned clockwise, and the main crankshaft turned. There was some fan belt slippage, and it required a little bit of effort (I didn't have lots of leverage), but the crankshaft turned more than a full rotation. I also pulled the dipsticks for the oil and automatic transmission fluid. They both still showed full. The oil looked brownish clear, and the transmission fluid was pinkish clear. The power steering unit had fluid at the top, and I didn't see water at the top of the radiator. While doing this I noticed the drivers side window crank was missing the little knob. The crank was there but the knob was missing. The passenger side window crank had the knob. I haven't been able to find an owners manual. I have one ignition key and one trunk key. I also noticed one small slit in the convertible top, towards the rear of the drivers side. It was clean and less than a couple of inches long. I was going to post pictures of the dipstick and the slit, but can't seem to find a way to delete a couple of photos to post the new ones. Contact me if you'd like to seem them.
