Vehicle Detail

Up for no reserve sale is a 2005 ford explorer 4x4. It has 146k on the OD and the engine runs very well. I picked this up at an auction and know nothing of its history. It was previously owned since new by the State of Massachusetts so it must have had a maintenance program. I drove it home from the auction and it ran great. Transmission shifted fine, brakes seemed strong. No overheating issues or strange noises. The next time I went to drive it it shifted very rough into gear. I added some transmission fluid as it was low and it again shifted fine. Same thing happened next time. So this truck's engine runs fine, but it has an unknown transmission issue. I am no mechanic, but obviously its losing transmission fluid. The loss of trans fluid could have caused further damage to the transmission. It could be anything from a fitting to a hose to a seal or the transmission itself. It will be your project to figure out. Other than the transmission issue it seems a solid truck. It will need new tires and you should be prepared to spend some money to go through the truck to make sure it is mechanically sound. It also has a bit of rust bubbling through the paint over the passenger side rear wheel well. It is missing the center console between the driver and passenger seat. It will need a good cleaning. Please bid accordingly factoring the likelihood of transmission work, tires, and unforeseen repairs. I wish you well in the hope its just a transmission line or an easy fix. I'm passing this on because I have no time to tinker with it, and hope someone with some mechanical ability could use a cheap fixer upper with great upside potential for a good 4x4 family car. Please plan to tow the truck home until you can inspect it and go through it. Please plan to conclude the transaction within 7 days of auction conclusion. Please only bid if you intend to follow through. Winning the bid buys the truck, not the ability to come check it out. There are no returns or warranties. Please don't blow up my perfect feedback because you are buying a vehicle with unknown mechanical history. You are welcome to make an appointment to check it out ahead of time. You will get a clear assigned Massachusetts title and a bill of sale. I will assist with any issues that come up with the CT DMV.
