The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and you’re winding through the back country with the windows down in your gorgeously appointed Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas. The Series III was ranked among the all-time 10 most beautiful cars in America by a major magazine and this car is a shining example. There’s no question why this car came with a sticker price of just over $41,000! This Series III XJ delivers the essence of the Jaguar experience every time you're behind the wheel. We believe it to be a one owner car, as the exterior of this Jaguar just shines. In all original paint, and all original body panels, this car shows no signs of misuse or repairs. Not even a door ding from a shopping cart at the grocery store! All of the body panels fit and finish very nicely, with consistent gapping between all panels and doors. The chrome is in fantastic condition, with no signs of pitting or peeling in the grill, bumper, and headlight bezels. This Jaguar has been meticulously maintained over the years, and it shows through and through. The only fault we could find on the exterior were a handful of tiny paint chips in and around the hood, which we’ve taken the time to apply some color code touch up paint to. We also note some minor oxidation in the aluminum wheels. Opening the door of this Jaguar is like opening the last present on Christmas Day. It’s big, it’s bold, it’s everything you asked Santa for, and this car delivers it in style! When people talk about some of the top luxury cars in the world, the name Jaguar tends to hit that “top 5” list everytime. This car is refined, and brings with it a whole slew of creature comforts not typical of 1987 automobilia. The “Vanden Plas” package offered a few extra details that the standard XJ6 didn’t offer. The smooth leather bucket shaped seats (front and back) are in great condition, showing no signs of wear, tears, or repairs. The rear seats are separated by a deep armrest with an integral cubby box. The floors boars welcome bare feet with simulated goat skin rugs for all passenger footwells, that are in like-new condition. Wooden inserts on all door waist panels that match the veneered fascia panel are in good shape, only showing some minor surface cracking here and there, mostly around the window switches and shift selector. The only other flaw we could find was a slight sag in the headliner, which is noted in the pictures. Mechanically we couldn’t find anything to complain about in this XJ. After doing a thorough inspection on the car and driving it around Chicago for a day, we can say that there are definitely no issues to be found in this classic cruiser. The 4.2L 6 cylinder engine starts and runs like a sewing machine., while producing 176 hp, and 219 lb-ft of torque. The 3 speed automatic transmission shifts into each gear flawlessly, and runs through them like the day she left the dealership. This car truly needs to be seen and driven to be appreciated!
