WE SHIP WORLDWIDE! PPI's WELCOME OFFERS WELCOME! Evolve Motors is pleased to present this fun-loving CJ-2A! Boy oh boy do we have a treat for you! Feast your eyes on the most period correct restoration on a classic flat fender Jeep that we’ve ever seen. The Willys CJ-2A, the first mass-produced Jeep intended for the civilian market, began production on July 17, 1945. Most people know that civilian Jeeps evolved from the model MB of World War Two fame, but few realize that the CJ-2A had two civilian ancestors: The CJ-1 and the CJ-2. By 1944, the Allies were confident the war would be won. This allowed Willys to consider designing a Jeep for the post-war civilian market. Documentation is hard to come by, but it seems that a CJ-1 (for "Civilian Jeep-1") was running by May of that year. The CJ-1 was apparently an MB that had been modified by adding a tailgate, drawbar, and a civilian-style canvas top. None of the CJ-1s built have survived, and it is not known (at this writing) how many were built. The CJ-2s, also known as "AgriJeeps", were a further evolution of the design and appeared sometime in 1944 or 1945. They had tailgates, Power Take-offs ("PTO"s), engine governors, column-shift T90 transmissions, 5.38 gears, 2.43:1 low-range transfer cases, and driver's-side tool indentations. The earlier models had brass plaques on the bonnet and windscreen that read "JEEP". Later models were stamped "JEEP" a la the familiar "WILLYS" stamping that appeared on the CJ-2A and later models. The CJ-2A marked a noticeable change in the appearance of the Jeep. The MB had recessed headlights and nine-slot grilles. The CJ-2A had larger headlights flush-mounted in a seven-slot grille. The headlight trim rings, which were body-color, (Harvest Tan or Pasture Green) became chrome with CJ-2A serial number 38687 in 1946. The T-84 transmission, which was considered weak, was replaced by the stronger T-90. The earlier CJ-2As had column shifts -- "Three on the Tree" -- until it was changed to the floor shift on serial number 38221. But it was still powered by the reliable 134 cubic inch, 60 horsepower "Go-Devil" engine. There were over 214,000 CJ-2A’s produced between 1945 and 1949, but few survive as clean as this example we have at Evolve Motors! This Jeep just underwent an entire ground up, frame off, restoration about 2 years ago, and the exterior shows it through and through. Every part, piece, nut and bolt on the exterior of this Jeep has been taken off, reconditioned or repainted, and reinstalled to factory specifications. It’s a pretty neat story really, the gentleman we acquired this Jeep from actually built 75% of it in a 10x10 storage shed, just to get it running and rolling. After that, he brought it back to his garage, and began the full restoration. The flat panels of this Willys don’t tell a lie, as you can see that it shows no signs of damage or filler anywhere in the all steel body. The exterior becomes the interior quite quickly on a vehicle with no doors or top, so one lap around this thing will leave you reassured that even the inner steel is all in A+ condition. There was no time (or expense) spared during this resto, as you can see even under the fender wells, hood, and floor boards are all straight as an arrow. As with any flat fender Jeep of it’s era, the steel has some natural waves and ripples to it throughout, adding to the original character and “patina” of the steel. We challenge you to find a better looking example of a ‘48 CJ-2A anywhere! As we mentioned earlier, the interior of this Jeep blends right in with the exterior. The only thing we would point out are the newly upholstered and padded ORIGINAL seats and frames that really set the tone for this entire truck. Gripping the original steering wheel and shifting with those old “small knob” shifters will set you back in time. A time when comfort and convenience took a back seat to rugged reliability and capability. All gauges are new or refurbished orginals, as is the caution tag on the dash. This Willys is the epitome of Jeeping and Jeep culture, and needs to be seen to be truly appreciated. Mechanically we had no choice but to fall in love with this truck. We hear it all the time; “I just had her running last summer” ... “but something came up, and now it won’t start”. Or, “I just went through it top to bottom, but she still idles funny...” I’d be lying if I told you we weren’t skeptical when we were told that this original motor was in great running condition just last year. We brought the Jeep back to our shop, had our senior mechanic take a look at it for a few hours. With a phone call and a couple of bolts, we were able to put a better cranking starter in it and were cruising down Lake Shore Dr like we owned the city. This little cruiser commands attention at every turn. The smooth running 134 cubic inch inline 4 cylinder produces just over 60 horsepower, and plenty of torque to get you through the backwoods without much effort. The clutch is nice and tight, and the transmission shifts through all 3 gears very smoothly. Don’t let this little runner fool you, she’s still a Jeep. Lock out the Borg-Warner DualMatic hubs, and watch this little beast go to work! The 4 wheel drive system is flawless, and is sure to get you home from a fun day in the mud. She’s sitting on brand new, period correct Power King tires Don’t worry if you get stuck, the Koenig PTO winch works like a dream, and will tug you (or your buddies) out of any sticky situation. There’s really nothing we can note negatively about the mechanicals of this restored Willys. Drive it, love it, buy it… It’s as simple as that at Evolve Motors!
