Vehicle Detail

I am selling this 68 Camaro. I recently purchased it for a decent price and it was unassembled. The previous owner took a very nice Camaro and decided to make it a Pro Street/ Race car. He removed the back half of his and grafted another one with the race set up onto his car. The car appears to line up well and I put the doors on to see how well it is aligned. I don't have the hinges so the doors are only held on by the latch and a string across the front to both doors. I used a few bolts to bolt the front end together. The hood hinges still had the original GM tags on them and appear to be new(with ten years of dirt). That is how long I was told this car had been sitting. When I first got it home, my plan was to see if it would fire up. I put a socket on the pulley to make sure the motor turns and it did not budge. So I am selling the car without any engine or transmission guarantee. I will try to put a battery on the starter and pull the plugs to see if it will turn after I lubricate the cylinders. I will do this in the next couple of days and post it before the end of the auction. I looked at the casting number on the block and I believe it is a 307, NOT a 327. see pictures of casting number. My original plan was to remove all the race components and to restore this car back to a original SS. Since I ran into these things I decided to try and sell it to someone who may be able to use it like it is and finish the under carriage. The frame rails are not connected and the floor is incomplete just behind the drivers seat. The original instruments are gone so I don't have any idea how many miles the car has. I do have a clear and signed title that was issued in 2011 and it shows the car has 50,000. There is a narrowed 9 inch ford rear end under it. I don't know which one it is or if it the heavy duty one or not. I am not very knowledgeable in this. That is why I planned on restoring. The engine casting number is 3970020. The first part of the VIN is I24378L335XXX. When I did a little research, I found this is for a Sport Coupe. I will answer all questions and do my best to be totally honest. I pulled the plugs and put lubricant in each of the cylinders. I cannot turn the motor with a socket. I hooked a battery to the cables in the trunk but when I jumped the starter on the solenoid the starter spin slow and the be did wouldn't kick in. I will try something different if I get time. For now assume the motor will need rebuilt or replaced. I forgot to also add there is not a trim tag on the firewall. There are 5 boxes of misc parts but I didn't see the tag. On Mar-05-16 at 20:19:53 PST, seller added the following information: I have had several questions about how is the car together. The back half of the car is all welded together and welded to the rear frame and ladder bars. The camaro is originally a unibody car. This means there is a front subframe and rear suspension frame. The body roof, rockers, and floor all make up the structure and strength of the body. This car has the roof and rockers welded together making the body solid. Once the floor panels are welded back in it will be strong. Now add to it the rear subframe and roll back add more strength to the car. To make the body able to stand not twisting when giving more power than this car was designed for is why the front and rear frames should be connected. If you were going to put regular tires and a stock motor in it the frame connection probably wouldn't be needed. This is your call as the builder. You can finish the car your way. If I didn't sell it my plan was to remove all the race stuff out and weld a stock floor and rear frame rails. I'm more of a purist than this project is. That is just me. The rear frame is very solid and welded to the body
