They not only describe this particular car but also some history of the make/model, considerations in buying a classic car and facts about our firm. However, we continually hear from out-of-state / out-of- country buyers (many of our clients) that they prefer the level of detail that we provide. However, if you are not prepared to read the full listing, please scan the "Details" section (below) along with viewing the Photographs at the bottom. If you'd prefer, please call us at 925-846-1451 and we'll gladly discuss the Mustang and answer any questions over the telephone, including our "Buy it Now" policy. Yes, the Mustang can be purchased prior to the end of the eBay auction. PHOTOGRAPHS PLEASE NOTE: EACH TIME WE LIST A VEHICLE ON eBay WE RECEIVE COMMENTS THAT THERE ARE NO PHOTOS OF THE INTERIOR, ENGINE, UNDERCARRIAGE, ETC. OF THE CAR. THERE ARE CLOSE TO 100 PHOTOS OF ALL AREAS OF THIS MUSTANG, BUT WHEN YOU REACH WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE LAST PHOTO, YOU WILL NEED TO SCROLL DOWN ON eBay TO VIEW THE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS. IF YOU ARE STILL UNABLE TO SEE THEM, PLEASE CALL US AT 925-846-1451 AND WE WILL PROVIDE A DIRECT LINK. NOTE: IT IS A VIOLATION OF eBay POLICY FOR US TO LIST THE URL ON THE eBay LISTING. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS OF ANY PART OF THE MUSTANG. ALL OF OUR PHOTOS ARE TAKEN IN NATURAL LIGHT AND WE DO NOT "PHOTO-SHOP" OR TOUCH-UP THE PHOTOS IN ANY WAY. Happy "eBaying"! Paul R. Wankle, Pres. Classic Cars Ltd. Pleasanton, CA 925-846-1451 DETAILS-THIS PARTICULAR 1965 FORD MUSTANG GT CONVERTIBLE Today, high quality first generation Mustangs in stock configuration are becoming increasingly difficult to find with collectors and enthusiasts alike looking for rust free, high quality California examples. Over the years, we have seen more Mustangs than we can count, but frankly this particular car is the finest Mustang convertible "GT" that we have seen. This car is a perfect choice for the discriminating Mustang collector either to be used strictly as a show car or a very high end driver. It is one of only 5,338 luxury convertibles built for the 1965 model year and is increasingly rare when finished in striking Caspian Blue paint with desirable options. This Mustang was assembled in the San Jose (Milpitas), CA plant on April 8, 1965, and sold in Burlingame, CA by the Jones-Minto dealership to the original owner. It is now being sold for the estate of the second owner. A full "nut and bolt" restoration was performed to a high standard at which time the odometer was set to zero. The car was shown at various prestigious car shows and has been basically treated as a "trailer queen" since restoration. It won best of class at the 2000 Hillsborough, CA Concours D'Elegance (blue ribbon included w/ car) and was chosen as a winner at several other Bay area collector car shows. The current odometer reading of only 1,018 miles supports that the car has been driven only sparingly since restoration. The owner's medical realities resulted in the car being stored for several years. However, it was properly maintained, driven occasionally and always carried current registration in California. The mileage must be termed "total miles unknown" as no documentation of the mileage at the time of restoration is available. The following significant documents and information will be provided to the cars new owner to document its California lineage and restoration: - Original style "California Pink Slip" - Original (restored) Black license plate with proper sequence plate NIP 645 - Old California registration slips - Maintenance & restoration records / history - Complete photo album of the cars restoration showing the car in its pre-restoration condition (rust free and in the same configuration, color, etc. as now) - Original Owner's Manual in virtually perfect condition and dated August 1964 - Original "Owners' Manual Enclosed" envelope (also in incredible condition & original - Best of Class ribbon from prestigious Hillsborough d'Concours - Programs from various Concourse events THE NUMBERS The Vehicle Warranty Number or VIN (stamped on the left front inner fender and also on the driver's door trim tag) is 5R08A207476 decoded as follows: - 5 = 1965 model year - R = Assembly plant San Jose, CA - 08 = Body code for convertible - A = Engine 289 cu. in, 225 hp 4 barrel carb V8 - 207476=production sequence The trim tag on the driver's door reads as follows: - Body 76B - Convertible (76) w/ luxury interior (B) - Color H - Caspian Blue - Trim 62 - Blue & white luxury - Date 08R-April 8, 1965 (late in the 1965 model run) - DSO 72 - San Jose, CA district - Axle 1-3.00:1 ratio - Trans 6 - C4 automatic FACTORY OPTIONS - GT equipment group which includes: 1. As evidenced by the included photos of the restoration process, the body was taken down to bare metal, properly primed and then finish coated. This professional process has resulted in a body that after 15+ years shows virtually no evidence of any rust or signs of body repair and high gloss paint. It is a truly rich and beautiful paint job. The white convertible top is excellent and the rear plastic window is perfectly clear. The GT chrome steel wheels and Mustang center caps and are excellent and, with the period-correct narrow whitewall tires, really set the car off nicely. All GT chrome badging is in place and very nice. All glass is excellent. Both bumpers are dent-free with excellent chrome. All stainless trim is also excellent. Considerable time & effort went into replacing or restoring literally every exterior component to give the Mustang a "like new", show winning appearance. The blue and white luxury pony interior is absolutely striking. There is no visible wear on the pony seats, correct factory style carpet in lighter, color contrasting blue with a perfect, crack free dash (and included Mustang logo dash cover) and white door panels. The full-length GT center console is very nice as is the wood steering wheel. The faux wood trim on the dash and center console is very good. It is difficult to describe the level of attention to detail that took place in restoring the cars interior. We will rely on the old adage "A photo is worth 1,000 words" and encourage prospective buyers to take a close look at the extensive photos of the interior of the Mustang. The engine compartment is fully detailed and show quality. It is properly configured and with the exception of a few items (chrome valve covers and a recently added battery) as it would have been when the car was new in 1965. The underside of the car is also detailed and shows that gas tank was likely new when restored. The trunk is like new with the proper houndstooth pattern mat, full sized unused spare tire (matching the wheels/tires on the car) and original jack. A DRIVE IN THE MUSTANG Ever wonder what is was like to take delivery of a new Mustang in 1965? If you weren't fortunate enough to have the opportunity in the 1960's, this may be the closest you'll ever get to driving / owning a new Mustang. The car runs and drives as you would expect for a car with a high level, comprehensive restoration that has traveled just over 1,000 miles since being completed (and winning a prestigious Bay area show). The Mustang starts immediately when cold, and runs and drives extremely well. The idle is smooth and the car has a history of being totally reliable. It was recently driven over 50 miles by the executor of the estate who thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to spend time behind the wheel of this special vehicle. The car doesn't exhibit any issues, runs cool even on the warmest days, and has excellent brakes and steering. The Mustang has disc brakes that stop the car straight and sure. The parking brake is properly adjusted and fully functional. The transmission is free from any issues and there are no signs of slipping, noise, or shifting issues. The remaining drive-line components are equally as good. The full complement of gauges (optional on the GT/ Pony interior) display the proper reading and all function as designed. Of course, the electrical system is also 100% operational including the smallest items like the interior lighting that illuminates the front floors of the Mustang. The optional fog lights, operated by a switch on the left side of the dash are also functional. The power convertible top works with a flip of the switch and the entire top and all of the components (rubber trim, frame, motor, etc.) The transmission is free from any issues and there are no signs of slipping, noise, or shifting issues. The remaining drive-line components are equally as good. Also, the heating & defrosting system is completely functional. Of course, the electrical system is also 100% operational. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang's styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators. Lee Iacocca's assistant general manager and chief engineer, Donald Frey, was the head engineer for the Mustang project - supervising the development of the Mustang in a record 18 months from September 1962 to March 1964 - while Iacocca himself championed the project as Ford Division general manager. It was initially introduced in 1964 as a hardtop and convertible with a fastback version put on sale the following year. At the time of its introduction, the Mustang was slotted into a compact car segment. To decrease development costs, the Mustang used chassis, suspension, and drive-train components derived from the Ford Falcon and Fairlane. Since it was introduced five months before the normal start of the 1965 production year and manufactured alongside 1964 Ford Falcons and 1964 Mercury Comets, the earliest Mustangs are widely referred to as the 1964½ model but are registered as 1965's. Several changes to the Mustang occurred at the start of the normal 1965 model year production, five months after its introduction. These cars are known as "late 65's", and were built after factory retooling in August 1964. The DC electrical generator was replaced by a new AC alternator on all Fords. The Mustang GT version was introduced as the "GT Equipment Package" and included a V8 engine (mostly 289 cu. in.), grille-mounted fog lamps, rocker panel stripes, and disc brakes. In the interior the GT option added a different instrument panel that included a speedometer, fuel gauge, temp gauge, oil pressure gauge and ammeter in five round dials (without numbers). The standard interior features of the 1965 Mustang included adjustable driver and passenger bucket seats, an AM radio, and a floor mounted shifter in a variety of color options. The Interior Decor Group was popularly known as "Pony Interior" due to the addition of embossed running ponies on the seat fronts, and also included integral armrests, wood-grain appliqué accents, and a round gauge cluster that would replace the standard Falcon instrumentation. Also available were sun visors, a (mechanical) remote-operated mirror, a floor console, and a bench seat. Total 1965 production of all body styles was 559,451 of which only 5,338 were luxury convertibles. PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. It is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to: - How long have they been in business? - How much experience do they have with collector cars? - How many positive collector car vehicle sales have they completed (positive eBay feedback)? - How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle? - Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "glamour shots" taken from a distance? - Does the seller have a Surety Bond to protect the financial transaction? - What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license? - Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances? - Does the seller enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation? - Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales? ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD. - Classic Cars Ltd. has been in the same, small, California town for over 22 years. We operate a small "brick & mortar", indoor showroom, and specialize in the sale, consignment, and purchase of sports, high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles. - The majority of our vehicles come from local, private owners and collectors, and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars, with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally, and around the country. As a result, we do not purchase our collectible cars from "distressed" sales, such as wholesale auctions, salvage sales, or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles, or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair. We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source. Our eBay feedback is 100% positive on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions. - We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping. - Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 890 positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World. - We are fully insured, bonded, and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World. - Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50,000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions - We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers, and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area. MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION - As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet. - In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, a documentation fee, DMV transfer fees and license/registration. Out-of-state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle and any local taxes/fees will be the purchaser's responsibility to pay in their respective state. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the vehicle is delivered or driven in California and driven on California roads, sales-tax, license/registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law. - While we encourage telephone calls to discuss this vehicle in greater detail we will not respond to inquiries asking "What is the reserve". Also, if you would prefer that we call you to answer any questions about the vehicle; shipping alternatives, etc. please e-mail us with your telephone number and will gladly get back in touch with you. - We encourage inspections of this Mustang by serious, qualified individuals or professional inspectors. Please call at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time. - As with any collectible vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd. - Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used "pre-owned" vehicle. Also, ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars. Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant. That said, collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!! - The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but, in some instances, has been provided by the car's owner / owners or outside sources. As a result, we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information. We encourage verification of "numbers" and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering. To avoid shipping the title with the car to our out of state buyers, we mail the title via Priority Mail. While shipping and transportation costs (if appropriate) are the responsibility of the winning bidder, we can assist with locating a suitable transporter. We regularly ship cars all over the USA/World, and can often times locate very competitive rates for transporting vehicles door to door, to a local terminal, enclosed, open, etc. Please call us for specific information/rates to your location. We meet some great people and fellow enthusiasts, and only rarely do we have problems with non-paying bidders. Please be certain that you are prepared to buy the car if you bid, or call us at 925-846-1451 before the end of the auction if we can answer any questions. If you have a "sunglass" rating or fewer than 10 feedback ratings on eBay, please call us before you bid so that we can discuss the bidding process, etc. If we do not hear from you, we reserve the right to delete your bid.
