Vehicle Detail
Classic, well-kept 300TD MB wagon up for grabs! She's a daily driver and runs like a champ. I am the third owner and she's done right by me these past two years; The first owner was an MB mechanic in TX, and paid meticulous attention to her maintenance; The second owner was a yoga instructor in Portland, and she too did the same. (I have some, but not all of the maintance records and receipts from over the years. There was also an owner in between me and the yoga girl, but they neither drove it, nor registered it.) Thing I love about the MB 300's is you can dress them up, or down: perfect wagon for surfing, camping, hiking, dogs, trips to Trader Joe's, etc... and at the same time, spiff her up and be not ahsamed to hand her over to the vallet. But if you're here checking her out, you probably already know all about these cars and how one fetishsizes them - in my view, very deserving of their cult-like following. They're buletproof tanks, get decent fuel mileage (20-25) and have a disntincitve vintage aesthetic that speaks to the sophisticated MB ethos. I just love these cars... and I am sad that I have to part ways with this baby. MECHANICAL: GRADE - BEngine is strong. Spent $2500 on a rebuilt transmission a year ago. Put apprximately 10K miles on it. Still has a 10 months left on warranty. Purrs like a kitten on the freeway. Good acceleration for a 300TD. (I've owned several) Needs an oil pan gasket - I was told it costs $50 bucks. Sometimes when turning off engine and removing key, she still wants to run. Had a mechanic friend rig it for me and it's fixed the problem. Long term you might want to take her to your mechanic and have new vaccum line pump installed. Nothing serious and a cheap fix at $30 bucks. Brakes perfectly, but with a little squeakiness; recently replaced pads and front calipers. BODY: GRADE - BBody is straight as a whistle. No rust, a few minor dings. Back tail light casings are broken and will need to be replaced. Installed new windsheild six months ago. PAINT: GRADE - B MINUSOther than a light fade to the roof and a few scratches, she shines up well. INTERIOR: GRADE - B Front seats show a little wear. Back seats are pretty mint, but losing a slittle bounce in their spring. Rear wagon upholstery has large stains. Dash is clean, very little cracking. Missing a few pieces of interior trim. Thde hatch extender to the wagon lift sometimes slips. ELECTRICAL & ACCESORIES: GRADE - CAC is not working. Not certain what's it's going to take to get her blowing cold - never checked it out. Heat works well. Only window that works is driver's side. The passenger side, as well as the back two will need new window switches. They list on Window Switch for $23. The headlight casings have little puddles of water in them - they work fine however and so I never got around to replacing the bulbs. Radio is standard BM issue - so nothing special back in 1984. Antenna is broken. Wipers work but definitely need new blades. MILEAGE GRADE - CShe has 290K on her. The 123 series are legendary for their durability and are known to clock 500-1M miles before being put to rest. With proper care and maintenance, this 300 will easily do the same.TIRES: GRADE - D. 20-25% tread left. Worn spare. Original jack in great condition.OVERALL GRADE: B - B MINUSShe runs great, and she's a decent looker...but she is 31 years old and so she could definitely benefit from having someone put some TLC and a little money into her. She's by no means mint, though she's not a project car either. She has a clean title and I've used her as daily driver for the past couple of years. I hate to see her go, but I need the money for a new project I'm involved in. Anyway... I think that about covers it. If I've forgotten something, my apolgies. If so, it's minor in scale. Any interests, Q's, etc... fire away. If local, I'm available to meet up for a test drive/lookover. Thanks a lot for stopping by, and checking her out! Cheers,Patrick
