I purchased it in early 1974 and drove it to both my high school proms and graduation. Of all my hundreds of cars I’ve owned in my life this is my favorite. It is the perfect color combination for a 71 442 convertible Viking Blue with a White convertible Top and Pearl White Upholstery with White Stripes on the W-25 Fiberglass Hood. That is the 1971 poster car colors! 1971 is the last year the 442 was a model and not an option. There were 1,304 442 convertibles built and of them only 183 were built with 4 speed transmissions (per Motorbooks “Olds 4-4-2 and W-Machine Restoration Guide”). It is equipped with 455CID 4 barrel carbureted engine, M20 wide ratio transmission, 3:73 Posi Traction 10 Bolt Differential, Bucket Seats, Floor Console, Tick-Tock Tach and Gages, Tinted Windshield and Tinted Glass all around, Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes, AM/FM Stereo Radio w/8-Track Tape Player, Rear Trunk Courtesy Light, Power Convertible Top, W-25 Hood with Ram-Air Air Cleaner. Courtesy Lighting, Deluxe Seat Belts, Super Stock II Wheels, Front Floor Mats. My car is very original. I have never done any paint or body work to the car. The only work I’m sure of is in the very front of the left front fender and this was done prior to 1974 when I acquired the car. The paint is as you see it, it was damaged by an open can or acid left open in my garage that evaporated and settled back down on the car, not my finest hour. The seats and carpets are original and on inspection several years ago looking for a build sheet I found a tag attached to the carpeting with a date of manufacture stamped to it. I did find a build sheet stuffed under the rear seat base in the springs. The car hasn’t seen bad weather in many years. The oil is changed yearly regardless of miles driven which are very few. I keep it covered when not driven. Put the top down in the spring and don’t put it up until I put it away for the winter. I try not to wash it as moisture isn’t good, I use spray detailer instead. I’m a bit of an amateur chemist, I run two gallons of 93 octane to one gallon of 108 octane racing fuel and add a bottle of BG fuel additive and a splash of marvel mystery oil. The car loves it. Even after it winter nap it starts right up and runs great. I can talk about this car for days. Look at the pictures and call with your questions regarding my 442 and please don’t think I don’t know what I have. I would like to see it go to someone else who loves the car as I do.
