Vehicle Detail
1982 Delorean DMC-12, 5-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 28,909 on the date of this listing. My brother-in-law purchased it new in 1984, my wife inherited it 2 years ago upon the death of the original owner. It is stored in the garage at my residence. It has not been driven since the death of the original owner. In order to start the engine the fuel pump/sender module was replaced with a unit purchased from Delorean. The battery was also replaced. The engine starts and runs. The supporting systems appear to function correctly (gauges, cooling fans etc.) with the exception of the throttle cable. It seems to stick when the peddle is depressed, causing the engine to race. I added an extra spring so that allows it to retract and slow the RPM. I would not consider that to be a proper or permanent fix. The fuel tank was thoroughly cleaned when the fuel pump was replaced. Although I would not consider this car a start from the beginning project to rebuilt, I would consider it a project for a qualified hobbyist/mechanic. As a minimum: I (as a novice), would think that all the fluids should be replaced and the engine tuned up, the tires checked and or replaced, the breaks checked. The air-conditioning serviced and recharged. Adjusting the door torsion rods would make entering and exiting much easier, but would not prohibit the car from being operated safely. Fixing the windows so they would go up and down smoothly is also something that should be done at some point. The seats need recovered. The radio fixed or replaced. There are probably other mechanical or electrical items that may need attention that I have not recognized. Other than verifying that the engine will run and engine related gauges and lights work, I have not attempted to verify other accessories such as air conditioning, power brakes, etc function. The car is expected to require a safety check and some maintenance before I would advise driving it on the road. The car is being sold as is- where is with no warranty included or implied.
