Vehicle Detail

By the late 1920’s, Ford’s ubiquitous Model T was beginning to show its age. Nearly 20 years in production and with over 15 million sold, the T would remain a popular sight for many years to come, but Ford Motor Company knew that it needed a drastically new model to maintain their position at the top of the market. Introduced in 1927, the Model A retained the T’s spirit of accessibility for the masses, but little else remained. The new four-cylinder engine was mated to a conventional gearbox and the controls were now via a typical 3-pedal arrangement. The complex Model T controls were now a thing of the past. The Model A was powered by a 3.3 liter, 201 cubic inch L-head inline four cylinder engine. The stout little engine produced 40 horsepower and propelled the little A to a top speed of approximately 60 mph. A wide variety of open and closed body styles were offered, as were pickups and delivery vehicles. The Model A was a huge success for Ford, becoming selling nearly as well as the Model T on an annual basis. Although it was only in production for four years, nearly 5 million examples were sold before production ended in 1931.***Featured here is a lovely 1931 Model A Pickup, finished in a very attractive two-tone red over black fenders. The color is nicely offset with yellow wire wheels and correct blackwall tires. Restored some years ago and very well-maintained since, this is a great driving Model A that runs strong and performs very well on the road. The body and paint is in very nice condition, our in-house experts having polished and buffed it to a fine gloss. Panel fit is good and consistent with how a Model A should be. There is no evidence of any corrosion or serious repairs. The body is all steel, and while a couple of minor flaws are evident in the paint, it presents very well overall. The oak bed floor has been restored and presents in nice condition, and a set of oak bed rails installed for a nice period touch. The chrome bumper is in good order, straight and presentable. Black headlight buckets and the black radiator shell are correct for a pickup/commercial chassis Model A.The exterior is accessorized with a Ford script side-mount spare wheel cover, proper Ford script headlamp lenses, a Ford Moto-Meter, and a Sparton horn. A set of compact modern tail lights and turn signals have been discreetly mounted for a bit of additional safety in today’s traffic, a very welcome addition. The L-head engine is tidy and clean in the engine bay. It runs strong, starts very easily and exhibits no smoke or excessive leaks. The gearbox rewards patience with clean, crunch-free shifts. A very cool Auto-Lite heater is fitted, to help keep you warm on crisp fall mornings. Few Model A trucks have survived the abuses of their early lives, and it is rare to find a pickup as pleasingly straight and usable as this. It was most recently in the possession of an elderly gentleman who simply did not have the ability to use it anymore after a decade of ownership, but he kept it in top running condition regardless. Tidy, honest and ready to be enjoyed, this Model A is an excellent choice for regular use in anything from club tours to weekend ice cream runs. Please contact Alex Ruozzi or Geoff Isabelle of RB Collection at 610-398-9700 for more information.
