Vehicle Detail

1969 MGC-GT Six Cylinder 3Litre 145 HP 4 Speed O/D Maple Leaf Yellow Exterior British Tan leather Interior Wilton Carpets I have owned this car for 24 years, having purchased it from my brother who was the second owner. A near concours restoration was completed in 2001. It has been driven approximately 24,000 miles since then, with 26 car shows, and 25 trophies /awards through 2007 when retired from showing. There was a single regional show in 2009 with a First In Class award. Always garaged undercover, driven regularly, and well maintained. The restoration mechanical work was completed by a mechanic who was previously employed by an MG dealership. All items that were in need of attention were either replaced or rebuilt. The motor was completely rebuilt including line boring, new Pistons (0. 020 oversized), re ground crankshaft, cam, valves, and lifters, all new bearings, rebuilt oil pump, new water pump, ring gear, new timing chain and tensioner, new motor mounts. The carburetors were rebuilt with grose jets. The transmission and over drive unit were rebuilt and a new Borg and Beck clutch installed together with a new master cylinder, rebuilt slave cylinder and new universal joints. A complete NOS exhaust system was installed, new fuel tank. The radiator was reconditioned and a thermostat controlled auxiliary cooling fan added to aid the aftermarket air-conditioner. The electrical system was converted to a single 12 volt battery. A battery cut off switch and wiring for a battery tender were added. The starter and alternator were rebuilt, electronic ignition, new coil, fuel pump, and horn added. Relay controlled halogen headlights have been more recently installed. All instruments were rebuilt. The steering rack assembly was rebuilt and new shocks installed front and rear. New brake servo units were installed, new master cylinder, new brake pads in front, new brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and bearings in the rear. New hubs and five new Dayton chrome/SS 72 spoke wire wheels (including spare) with two wing knock-offs added in 2005 together with five Vredestein Sprint Classic 185/70 R15 tires and new tubes. At this time the calipers were rebuilt with stainless steel pistons. New rotors, new ceramic pads, new wheel bearings, and new hoses were added. The body was stripped to bare metal, primed, and given a professional multi coat paint job using acrylic enamel. The bumpers were re-plated, new windshield and new side chrome. Headliner redyed. All areas prone to rusting were Waxoyl treated. New leather interior and Wilton carpeting throughout, furflex door seals, three point seat belts, center console with cup holder, SS logo sill covers, original steering wheel rewrapped with leather. New ABS plastic under- dash liners. A NOS steering wheel is included as is an original hardcover shop manual, owners handbook, premium car cover, rubber logo floor mats, battery tender, jack, knock-off hammer, and various other items. The after market air-conditioner was converted to use 134a refrigerant and the blower motor replaced more recently. The Sony AM-FM/Cassette/10 Disc Changer and JBL speakers sound good. This car would be considered a Hagerty number two+ and can be driven anywhere. The body is straight and there are no dents or rust. The leather seats are uncracked and the wool carpeting shows little wear. The transmission shifts smoothly and the engine uses no oil. This GT can be shown at local and regional events or rallyed with no fear of embarrassment. The car is not perfect. The oil pressure gauge works intermittently and the electrical sending unit should be replaced, I have a new one, and the passenger door needs to be adjusted. No need to mention the oil drips on the garage floor, it’s a British car.Go to www.flickr.com/photos/oldrelic/albums for additional photos including underside.
