They not only describe this particular car but also some history of the make/model, considerations in buying a classic car and facts about our firm. However, we continually hear from out-of-state / out-of- country buyers (many of our clients) that they prefer the level of detail that we provide. However, if you are not prepared to read the full listing, please scan the DETAILS below along with viewing the PHOTOGRAPHS at the bottom. If you'd prefer, please call us at 925-846-1451 and we'll gladly discuss the Porsche and answer any questions over the telephone, including our "Buy it Now" policy. Happy "eBaying"! Paul R. Wankle, Pres. Classic Cars Ltd. Pleasanton, CA 925-846-1451 DETAILS-THIS PARTICULAR 2003 PORSCHE BOXSTER S CONVERTIBLE This two-owner life-long Northern California 2003 Porsche Boxster S Convertible looks great with its Midnight Blue metallic exterior and black leather interior / and power black top. The Boxster "S" is one of our favorite "driver's cars" providing superb handling from its mid-engine 258 horsepower engine, 6-speed and larger factory fitted 18:" alloy 911 alloy spoked wheels. This particular car has benefited from a late model factory engine replacement, very limited ownership (one owner for 11~ years) and is being offered a very affordable price. Porsche."There is no Substitute. " HISTORY After manufacture in February 2003 in Finland, the car was sold in August to the first Northern California owner by Sonnen Porsche in Mill Valley, California. Four years ago, there was a problem with the original engine and Porsche installed a proper, factory re-manufactured 2004 engine (see the numbers section below for details). This engine now has just 34,800 miles. The original owner drove the car until 2014, putting on about 104K miles. It was then sold, again by Sonnen Porsche, to the second Northern California owner who kept it 1 year, putting on an additional 8K miles. Nearly $6,000 of maintenance was performed on the car during this past year. The car has been driven an average of 9,400 miles per year, below the California average plus the remanufactured engine has less than 35,000 miles. The CARFAX report supports the above ownership history along with a clean history relative to accidents, air bag deployment, theft, odometer rollback, flood, and other negative activity. It also shows the car has always passed California emissions inspection without any problems. The current odometer reading of 112,519 miles is actual as verified by both the CARFAX report and the maintenance receipts. THE NUMBERS The car bears VIN WP0CB29863U662495 and has current California license plates 7HNE317 and a clear California title. The driver's door tag lists the manufacturing date as 02/03. Color codes are: -Paint code L39C-Midnight Blue Metallic (a dark blue) -Interior code E9-Black leather The car has a replacement 3.2 liter engine of the proper type with serial number M96/24AT67466308 decoded as follows: - M96/24=engine type (3.2 liter 6-cylinder 258 hp) - AT=remanufactured engine from Porsche factory - 6=number of cylinders - 7=engine version - 4=model year (2004) - 66308=engine serial number As verified in writing by the Sonnen Porsche Service Manager (email in our file and available to prospective buyers), this engine was installed on 08/05/2011 at 77,772 miles and is a remanufactured engine assembly from Porsche. MAINTENANCE Considerable costly maintenance has recently been completed as verified by included receipts as follows: -08/19/15; 112,418 miles-Passed California smog test -04/09/15; 109,994 miles; $1,960-New heater core, R134A A/C service -04/01/15; $3,069-New radiator, water pump, drive belt, drop links, front brake rotors and pads -02/19/15; 108,600 miles; $977-Oil and filter, cabin air filter, brake fluid flush, new right door module/lock assembly FACTORY OPTIONS The car has the following factory options as listed on the sticker under the front trunk lid: -Code 239-18" tires -Code 411-18" 996.2 Carrera wheels -Code 502-Manufactured at Uusikaupunki, Finland -Code 551-Wind deflector -Code 584-Storage box on engine cover -Code 981-Leather dash and door panels -Code 983-Leather seats The MSRP for a base 2003 Boxster sans these options was approximately $53,000. Coverage is very good. There is a small chip on the front of the forward trunk lid and a dime-sized defect where the left rear of the convertible top touches the body. The convertible top shows some wear but is very functional and has a nice glass window. All glass is excellent. There are some defects in the narrow black trim around the windshield frame. There is no damage to either the front or rear bumper areas and the factory rear rubber bumper guards are in fine shape. All four alloy wheels have some curb rash on the flanges, particularly the right front and left rear. All glass is excellent. Under the front end, the plastic panel facing the ground has considerable road rash but none is visible when viewing the car from above. The black leather interior shows very nicely. The passenger seat is excellent while the driver's seat shows some wear but is very serviceable. The black carpet, the dash pad, the door panels, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel are all excellent. Both the front and rear trunk areas are very nice. The underside of the car is "California clean" but and the engine is clean and free from excessive fluids as a result of having been replaced fewer than 35,000 miles ago. DRIVABILITY The only reason for the sale of the Boxster by the cars second owner was an unfortunate, rather serious motorcycle accident that resulted in his broken foot and shoulder. Unfortunately, the cars enthusiast owner will be unable to drive a manual transmission vehicle for some time (if at all). When we picked up the Boxster "S", we drove it 100 miles at highway speed to our showroom and it proved to be a really fun ride. With the 6-cylinder engine and 6-speed transmission it offers great performance and the handling is excellent due to the cars mid-engine configuration (some proponents of the Boxster say better handling than that of a 911). A friend in a following car did not witness any exhaust smoking whatsoever. The braking is excellent, the steering is tight, the tracking is true, and the clutch and transmission are smooth. The operating temperature remained well within acceptable limits despite temperatures approaching 100 degrees and the cars oil pressure and other vital signs are excellent and show no signs of problems. The cars independent mechanical inspection supported the functional lights, excellent tires, brakes and the overall quality of the Porsche. TESTIMONIALS From the Kelley Blue Book website: 1."I find the Boxster a perfect everyday car. It is extremely reliable and very fun to drive. The style is truly timeless and in some ways even more beautiful than new Porsches." 2."I have owned this car for the last 100,000 miles (bought it w/ 28,000 miles). Great fun car. I have driven it from Orlando, Fl to Los Angeles, CA with no problems (6300 miles) Of course you have to maintain the car as you would any sports car. Love the look of it and love the handling. Reliable, fun and easy to drive with the mid engine design." The Boxster is Porsche's first road vehicle since the 550 Spyder that was originally designed as a roadster. The first-generation Boxster (the 986) was introduced in late 1996 as a 1997 model. All 986 Boxster's use the M96, a water-cooled, horizontally opposed ("flat"), six-cylinder engine. It was Porsche's first water-cooled non-front engine. The mid-engine layout provides a low center of gravity, near-perfect weight distribution, and neutral handling. .The first model was powered by a 2.5 liter engine. In 2000, the base model was upgraded to a 2.7 liter engine and the new Boxster S variant was introduced with a 3.2 liter engine. The model received a minor facelift in 2003. The plastic rear window was replaced by a smaller glass window. The interior received a glove compartment, new electro-mechanical hood and trunk release mechanism (with an electronic emergency release in the fuse box panel) and an updated steering wheel. Porsche installed a reworked exhaust pipe and air intake. In addition, the front headlight's amber indicators were replaced with clear indicators. The rear light cluster was also changed with translucent grey turn signals replacing the amber ones. The bumpers were also changed slightly for a more defined, chiseled appearance, and new wheel designs were made available. The Boxster's name is a blending of the word "boxer", referring to the vehicles horizontally-opposed or "boxer" engine, and the word "roadster", referring to the vehicles two seat capacity and convertible top. The Boxster was Porsche's biggest volume seller from its introduction in 1996 until the company introduced the Cayenne sport utility vehicle in 2003 PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. It is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to: -How long have they been in business? -How much experience do they have with collector cars? -How many positive collector car vehicle sales have they completed (positive eBay feedback)? -How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle? -Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "glamour shots" taken from a distance? -Does the seller have a Surety Bond to protect the financial transaction? -What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license? -Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances? -Does the seller enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation? -Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales? ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD. -Classic Cars Ltd. has been in the same, small, California town for over 21 years. We operate a small "brick & mortar", indoor showroom, and specialize in the sale, consignment, and purchase of sports, high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles. -The majority of our vehicles come from local, private owners and collectors, and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars, with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally, and around the country. As a result, we do not purchase our collectible cars from "distressed" sales, such as wholesale auctions, salvage sales, or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles, or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair. We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source. Our eBay feedback is 100% positive on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions. -We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping. -Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 850 positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World. -We are fully insured, bonded, and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World. -Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50,000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions -We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers, and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area. MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION -As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet. -In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, a documentation fee, DMV transfer fees and license/registration. Out-of-state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle and any local taxes/fees will be the purchaser's responsibility to pay in their respective state. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the vehicle is delivered or driven in California and driven on California roads, sales-tax, license/registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law. -While we encourage telephone calls to discuss this vehicle in greater detail we will not respond to inquiries asking "What is the reserve". Also, if you would prefer that we call you to answer any questions about the vehicle; shipping alternatives, etc. please e-mail us with your telephone number and will gladly get back in touch with you. -We encourage inspections of this Porsche by serious, qualified individuals or professional inspectors. Please call at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time. -As with any collectible vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd. -Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used "pre-owned" vehicle. Also, ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars. Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant. That said, collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!! -The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but, in some instances, has been provided by the car's owner / owners or outside sources. As a result, we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information. We encourage verification of "numbers" and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering.
